ByGB Blog Official 2019-05-05 1848

The Realme 3 and Realme 3 Pro are relatively new phones on the market — but this is already our fourth review of the phones — and that alone speaks to their popularity. The Realme 3 series are direct rivals to Xiaomi Note line-up and other budget smartphones as they do come with quite a bit to offer: from strong gaming processors to good cameras and long battery life. In this post, we put the two Realme phones side by side and see what features make the Realme 3 Pro more expensive of the two.

Now, let’s dig into the details.

Realme 3 Pro vs. Realme 3: modern design and gradient color options

The Realme 3 Pro measures 6.17 x 2.92 x 0.33 inches while the Realme 3 is just slightly smaller at 6.15 x 2.98 x 0.33 inches. Both phones come with large displays and aim to offer a full screen experience via tiny waterdrop notches housing the phones’ front cameras.

Realme 3 Pro vs. Realme 3

The Realme 3 has been able to achieve a 81.8% screen-to-body ratio while the Reame 3 Pro does even better at 83.7% screen-to-body ratio.

Both smartphones have been made using a unibody manufacturing process (according to OPPO) aimed to give the phones a more solid feel despite the fact that both devices are made out of plastic. Some users have noted that the phones still feel a bit flimsy (compared to the all-grass Redmi Note 7 Pro, for instance). When it comes to looks alone, however, both Realme smartphones give the impression of modern mid-range devices and come in fashionable gradient color options. You can get the Realme 3 in Dynamic Black or Radiant Blue and the Realme 3 Pro is available in grey, blue and purple hues.

Realme 3 Pro vs. Realme 3: what’s on the inside?

The first thing we generally look at here are the processors.

Realme 3’s Helio P70 is comprised of four Cortex-A73 cores clocked at 2.1GHz and four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 2.0GHz. The phone uses a 12nm process and features the ARM Mali-G72 GPU.

Realme 3 Pro’s Snapdragon 710 consists of eight Kryo 360 cores clocked at 2.2GHz. The phone runs on a 10nm process and there is the Adreno 616 GPU onboard for gaming.

Another thing to note is that the Snapdragon 710 uses the latest LTE X15 modem capable of providing 800Mbps of download and 150Mbps of upload speed while the Helio P70 can only offer up to 300 Mbps of download and 150Mbps of upload speed — which can be a decisive factor for some users.

When it comes to standard daily performance, however, you aren’t likely to notice any significant differences when it comes to gaming and multitasking.

The Realme 3 and the Realme 3 Pro give you two options when it comes to RAM and ROM. You can get the Realme 3 in 3GB or 4GB versions with either 32GB or 64GB onboard. With the Realme 3 Pro, you get more of everything: 4GB or 6GB of RAM and 64GB and 128GB of storage.

On the battery side, the Realme 3 Pro comes with a 4045mAh battery and supports VOOC Flash Charge 3.0. According to OPPO, this is good for 383 hours of standby time, 126 hours of music playback, 32 hours of calls, 9.7 hours of HD video watching and 7 hours of non-stop PUBG gaming (which is becoming a new battery measurement characteristic).

The Realme 3 does not fall far behind. The phone comes with a 4230 mAh battery with 10W fast charging, AI Power Master and Screen Battery Optimization feature that increases battery life up to 10%. You can browse the web for up to 18.9 hours and watch over 14 hours of YouTube.

Realme 3 Pro vs. Realme 3: cameras

The Realme 3 comes with a rather standard camera offer in its price range. On the back, there is a 13MP + 2MP dual rear camera — which looks a bit disappointing compared to the 48MP budget flagships recently launched by Xiaomi.

With that, you get a wide selection of camera modes and camera app features including AI scene recognition, nightscape mode, chroma boost, expert mode, slow-mo, time-lapse, panorama, beauty mode and more. The in-app processing and functionality do add improvements to the camera performance but, even with that, low light photography remains problematic.

On the front, the phone comes with a 13MP selfie shooter. With the Helio P70 onboard, the front cam supports some AI functionality: AI Beauty Mode, DIY Beauty Mode, Face Unlock, etc.

The Realme 3 Pro does better in the camera department, at least on paper. On the back, there is a 16MP Sony IMX519 camera with an f/1.7 aperture (you will find the same sensor on the OnePlus 6T). The phone uses a secondary 5MP sensor for depth and portrait shots. On the front, you get an impressive 25MP selfie cam with a good set of AI enhancements.

Realme 3 Pro vs. Realme 3: prices and verdict

The Realme 3 Pro starts at a bit over $200 while the Realme 3 can be yours from close to $130.

We’d say that this is a very reasonable difference in price based on that each phone has to offer.

The Realme 3 is a very good option for an entry-level phone — and, even here, you get a large screen with almost non-existent bezels.

The Realme 3 Pro, on the other hand, has mid-range ambition, featuring a powerful gaming processor, good amount of RAM and an interesting selfie camera.
