The RedmiBook 14 is all about being budget-friendly. The laptop’s starting price is just $580 — so what do you get for your money? This is actually what makes the RedmiBook 14 stand out. For this quite reasonable price tag, you get the aforementioned eighth-gen Intel Core i5 CPU, 256GB SSD and 4GB of RAM. If that’s not quite enough, you can top up the laptop to Core i7 CPU, 512GB SSD and 8GB of RAM — but that would cost you a bit more, $725.
Another highlight of the computer is the NVIDIA's GeForce MX250 GPU, promising to supercharge your laptop for work and play. The GPU is based on the same Pascal GP108 chip as the previous version but features increased clock speeds (up to 3.5 times faster compared to the GeForce MX150). The unit guarantees smooth handling of integrated graphics for photo and video editing applications and fluent gaming.
Design-wise, the RedmiBook 14 is not a bad looking laptop. It’s simple, classic and we are definitely seeing some signature Xiaomi features, which go back to signature Apple features.
Made of anodized aluminium, the laptop is sturdy and quite compact weighing just 1.5kg and measuring 12.7 x 8.8 x 0.7 inches. The RedmiBook 14 laptop is 0.2 inches thin.
The RedmiBook 14 comes with a 14 inch Full HD display (1920 x 1080 resolution) with a 178-degree viewing angle, 250 nit brightness and an IPS panel. The bezels on the laptop are quite thin and the computer boasts an 81.2% screen to body ratio.
Another notable feature is the full-size keyboard, which would definitely be appreciated by all those who type a lot — especially with the recent trend towards minimized laptop keyboards.
The RedmiBook 14 also features a new cooling system meant to disperse the heat. Plus, the keypad supports multi-touch and gestures.
On the connectivity side, the RedmiBook 14 comes with two USB 3.0 ports, one USB 2.0 port, one HDMI port, dual-band Wi-Fi ac with 2x2 MIMO support and Bluetooth 5.0. The laptop preserves the 3.5mm headphone jack and comes with dual 1.5W speakers and DTS Audio support.
There is a 46W battery powering the RedmiBook 14. The laptop supports fast charging and, according to Redmi, is good for up to 10 hours of non-stop video playback, 7 hours of online video playback and 11 hours of standard web browsing.
The RedmiBook 14 will come available in three versions:
● i5 + 256GB – 3999 Yuan ($580)
● i5 + 512GB – 4299 Yuan ($625)
● i7 + 512GB – 4999 Yuan ($725)
All the versions of the laptop come with the NVIDIA's GeForce MX250 GPU.
Officially, the RedmiBook 14 goes on sale on in China on June 11 and presales are available as of June 1.
As we’ve mentioned at the very beginning of this review, the RedmiBook 14 could be the budget laptop we’ve been waiting for. While the Redmi sub brand has been bringing budget smartphones to the market for a good stretch of time, the RedmiBook 14 is the brand’s debut into the field of computers — and quite a strong one. You get a good processor, a strong GPU onboard, a decent sized screen and a full-size keyboard — all for a very nice price. We are looking forward to getting our hands on the RedmiBook 14 and putting the laptop’s promising claims to the test.
