Actually, her big time is already over. When there were no computerized watches, they wore many: small fitness bracelets that counted how many steps you took a day. But then came Apple Watch and Co., who could do the same (and of course much more). But also the small wristbands learned. Meanwhile, they can also indicate when notifications have been received on the mobile phone and measure the pulse. Manufacturers from China such as Xiaomi even packed this into fitness trackers for 25 euros. This category also includes Samsung's Galaxy Fit e, which is offered for a list price of 39 euros.
The Fit e is a lightweight; you won't notice its 15 grams on your arm after a short time. Most of it is presumably taken up by the battery, but the band will only last for the seven days promised on the packaging if it is not used to display news, but merely as a watch and fitness tracker. That there is a problem here seems to have become clear to Samsung as well, because the company recently provided a software update with which the running time of the Fit e can be extended by some additional settings.
Of course, a device with such a small screen (128 x 64 pixels) has to be paired with a smartphone on which settings can then be made. This is done via the energy-saving Bluetooth Low Energy wireless standard. Samsung also allows cooperation with Android smartphones from other manufacturers, but they still have to install some apps. As with almost all trackers, the Fit e also stores the measured data in the cloud, and as always it is not 100% clear who has access to the rather sensitive data (heartbeat!).
Samsung stresses that the data in the cloud is encrypted. They could only be read with the key stored on the device. Data synchronization with the cloud can also be turned off. To do this, tap Samsung Account under Settings in the Samsung Health app and deactivate Synchronize automatically. The data will then only be synchronized with the mobile phone.
The arm is controlled solely via the touch-sensitive screen. Steps, sleep quality, stress level and heart rate are measured. The fitness wristband does not contain a GPS chip for positioning. So if you want to do that, you have to take your mobile phone with you when you run, for example.
If you are looking for a simple tracker without a lot of bells and whistles but with the most important functions, the Galaxy Fit e is a good choice. If you want more, look for a Smartwatch or more complex trackers with GPS and a bigger screen.
