Due to the weakening of the memory chip market, insufficient demand had a strong impact on Samsung's profits. Samsung has always wanted to win new customers for its foundry industry. The company hopes to offset this loss by producing more nonmemory chips and chips for customers such as Qualcomm Intel.
The report quoted a source saying, "We know that contract negotiations with Intel have entered the final stages. Samsung is reported to start mass production of Intel's 14nm Rocket-Lake chip from Samsung in the fourth quarter of next year. The first CPU will be available in 2021.
Since the second half of 2018, Intel has been struggling with the shortage of CPU power. The company has invested heavily in modernizing and building new production lines for 10nm chips, but it will take years to expand. Meanwhile, Intel needs to increase production of 14-nanometer chips to bring chips to market. Therefore, it will be doing part of its business with Samsung, hoping to solve the problem of inadequate supply.
As the Samsung chip business continues to grow in the future, it could outperform TSMC and become the largest chip manufacturer. Qualcomm is reported to have worked with Samsung to produce Snapdragon 865 to achieve this goal. .
Intel is likely to choose Samsung as TSMC will manufacture all of AMD's competing 7nm CPU and GPU components. In addition, the Taiwanese company continues to manufacture chips, and the current US ban on Huawei could be another reason for Intel to choose Samsung.
Currently, neither Samsung nor Intel have responded to this report.
