If the P30 Pro loses the ergonomics match against the Galaxy S10 +, it wins when it is put in competition with the Xiaomi MI 9. Not that the Xiaomi mobile is badly built, because for its price the MI 9 offers impeccable finishes and a real premium feel. Just like the P30 Pro Besides, but at the same time the latter is sold over 1 000 €, so the quality finishes are expected.
Not where the P30 Pro marks points is the sealing certification that is lacking in MI 9. Huawei's Mobile does not risk anything in case of accidental bathing, while it is possible that the MI 9 does not resist such an adventure. Beyond this detail, difficult to disshare both phones. Each one has impeccable design and ergonomics. Note that neither of the two phones can accommodate a microSD card unfortunately. Just add a NM memory card (a mobile-specific format from Huawei).
Two high-end phones, two quality OLED screens. Hard to really designate a winner on the field of the screen between the two mobiles. The Colorimetry is perfect on both, the readability is impeccable and everyone enjoys a screen "edge to edge " with a discrete notch.
The slab of the P30 Pro tends to absorb the reflections better, but the difference is so tenuous that one cannot really declare a winner. Whether it's the P30 or the MI 9, each will provide a quality experience.
Here too, it is difficult to designate a true winner. Both phones have extremely powerful processors and have enough RAM to juggle a palanate of applications without slowing down. Whether it's the Snapdragon 855 or the Kirin 980, both platforms offer ample performance for most uses.
Of course both phones offer impeccable game performance and allow you to rotate all the titles of the play store with an excellent level of graphics and a foolproof fluidity. In addition to that neither of the two appliances is overheating, so it is at all good.
Here no fighting possible, the MI 9 wins by package, because despite a price above 1 000 €, Huawei did not deem it good to provide in the box a USB-C to mini-jack adapter with a value of €3. Impossible for us to make our usual battery of tests so. Your audio experience will be determined by your choice of headphones. The MI 9 adapter offers a powerful, clean signal and a wide and rather well-marked sound stage.
Even for the best of phones, hard to compete with the P30 Pro. Huawei has done an admirable job on its latest high-end offering not only quality images, but also a plethora of sensors capable of adapting to all situations. Here we will only compare this says what is comparable, i.e. the main module and the ultra wide-angle. To find out what the P30 Pro 5x zoom is worth, go to the test.
As you can see, the P30 Pro has a more natural rendering than the MI 9. The contrast is better mastered, the sharpness more present and the level of detail higher. The fault of an overly aggressive smoothing on the MI 9. The colors also are a little bland on the Xiaomi mobile.
At night it's the same story. The P30 Pro captures more detail, the images show a better contrast and it manages to erase the grain, while the photo from the MI 9 is filled. In addition to this, the white balance and exposure are better mastered at Huawei.
And it goes again the same for the ultra-wide-angle module. The colors and the Piqué are better mastered at Huawei, even if the quality is not faultless. Note This says that the MI 9 offers a slightly wider angle of field, because its ultra-wide-angle is a 13 mm equivalent (in 24x36) against 16 mm on the P30 Pro.
If neither the P30 Pro nor the MI 9 manage to compete with the boss of the sector that is the mate 20, the two do not demerit however and should allow you to hold two days without too many problems if your use is not too intensive. That said, the Huawei P30 Pro has a slight lead on our combined Smartvise autonomy test with 1 h 20 min of endurance in addition.
On the recharge also the P30 Pro does better with the ability to climb from 0 to 100% in 50 minutes only.
At the end of the day, even if MI 9 defends itself well, the victory comes back to the P30 Pro. Huawei's mobile makes better on the decisive points that are photo and autonomy. At the same time, with a higher price of €500 compared to MI 9, it was worth it to do better. This does not remove anything from MI 9 which remains an undeniable "high-end killer" within reach of much more scholarships.
