Just yesterday we knew a leak that practically confirmed what we had all suspected for weeks, the Xiaomi CC9 will be the Xiaomi Mi A3 in the West. In fact an image showed exactly the same design, with the addition of the Android One logo.
Xiaomi has launched several mobile phones with the 48 megapixel photo sensor that Sony unveiled last summer. This is the IMX586, and is a sensor of proven quality that are increasingly adopting mobiles, especially Chinese. And indeed, the Xiaomi CC9 carries a sensor of 48 megapixels, a priori this IMX586 that have released other mobiles of the brand, in theory the same one that mounts the Xiaomi CC9e. But no, it's not exactly like that, because it actually mounts another sensor other than Sony.
It's not the Sony IMX 586, but actually it's the Sony IMX 582, a subtle difference that affects a particular feature in the use of the camera. Although it is something that was known since the launch, because in the specifications so detailed, a few hours ago Xiaomi through weibo Lu Weibing has explained why this sensor change to equip the Xiaomi CC9e, compared to the CC9 that does mount the original sensor. And everything has to do with the processor.
Although the Sony IMX586 and 582 sensors have the same features as 1/2” and 1.6μm pixels, the difference lies basically in the ability to record 4K video. While the IMX 586 sensor can record 4K video at 60fps, the Sony IMX 582 can only record 4K video at 30fps.
And the main circumstance that led Xiaomi to make this decision was the processor. Because the Snapdragon 665 is only capable of facilitating recording in 4K resolution at 30fps, and was therefore the sensor that best suited the configuration of the phone. Therefore, it is a decision that adapts the capacity of the sensor to that of the processor.
However, we understand that in the photographic section we are going to have the same performance of the Xiaomi CC9, or what is the same, photographically the Xiaomi Mi A3 Lite will have almost identical features to those of the Xiaomi Mi A3.
