Currently, a report circulating that may see a release of The Elder Scrolls 6 may not until 2021, because publisher Bethesda's parent company Zenimax should be in litigation over the brand Redfall.
The situation is probably that Zenimax tried to protect the brand Redfall. Possibly, could The Elder Scrolls 6 get the nickname Redfall. If that is the case, you now have the problem that other people claim trademark rights to this name. The other party is author Jay Falconer, who also uses Redfall and has in his own words also Zenimax offered to license the brand. Only one was there with Zenimax apparently not so convinced. Falconer said he had no other choice.
So now runs another lawsuit for Zenimax, with which one already knows. Among other things, it was only with Oculus VR / Facebook in the hair, because at id Software intellectual property had migrated to the change of staff. What exactly is behind it, you will probably never know. Although judgments were made in favor of Zenimax, the truth remains in the dark.
Anyway, one knows with such things at Zenimax and the company was indeed founded by a lawyer. If you now dig into the documents that the case has already generated, then you see that the first hearing is scheduled for mid-August 2020 - if it comes to that. Until then, a release would not be expected anyway, but such lawsuits usually drag on, so it is now assumed that Bethesda barely get a game on the market before 2021 and even the said year would be still positive.
Of course there is always the possibility that one agrees out of court or disregards the use of Redfall, which would speed up the number probably. After that, it looks currently but probably not enough. Neither Bookbreeze.com as the legal representative of the author nor Bethesda seem to want to back down.
Redfall is used by Falconer for a series of post-apocalyptic survival thrillers published by Bookbreeze. As usual, brand rights are about having the public confuse the Redfall books with the Redfall game, and that you can generate a few royalties if you can agree. Falconer must also protect the rights of it, if it comes once to a feature film, a TV series or game to book series.
