TSMC confirms to begin 5nm EUV production for Apple

At the beginning of this year, there were some rumors that Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (TSMC) was investing in the new 5 nm chip production process in order to maintain the manufacturer's position as one of Apple's main suppliers.

According to Reuters, this information was confirmed by TSMC on Thursday (21), under the allegation that Apple expects to invest US$ 25 billion in 5 nm technology.

Taking into consideration that TSMC has an exclusive contract in the supply of Apple's A series chips, used to equip some recent models of iPhones and iPads, available since the emergence of the architecture originally used in iPad Pro, it is likely that the 5 nm process will be applied to boost the performance and autonomy of the next models of Apple devices.

Still according to the information released, this strategy could mean a response from Apple to its main rival Samsung, which is showing a significant evolution in increasingly smaller and more efficient chip production processes.
