Insiders have been able to test the Xbox Game Bar for Windows 10 for more than a month via the Xbox Inside app, now it makes it out of the first beta phase. Redmond officially announced that the Game Bar will be available for download to all PC players who have installed the recently released Windows 10 May 2019 Update (Version 1903) on their system. If you haven't downloaded the latest Windows update yet, you can still get the Xbox Game Bar through the Insider program, where Windows 10 1809 is the minimum requirement.
The Xbox Game Bar is an overlay for gamers that can be activated using the "Windows + G" shortcut. It can be personalized with various widgets according to your wishes. Currently Microsoft offers for example the display of the system performance (CPU, GPU, RAM), audio options and the Xbox Chat. Players can also create screenshots and in-game videos, start voice chats with friends or join game streams with Mixer with just one click. In addition, the Xbox Game Bar works together with Spotify, which allows music control directly from the game.
However, the most important feature of the Game Bar is probably the tools for group search (LFG, Looking for Group). Similar to the function of the Xbox App for Windows 10, players can easily find other comrades-in-arms, groups or raids for selected titles. Currently, the catalogue of available games for the LFG tool is still relatively manageable. Popular games like Fortnite and Apex Legends are included as well as Microsoft's own titles Sea of Thieves, Forza Horizon 4, Minecraft or State of Decay 2. The Xbox app, on the other hand, provides significantly more games for group search, which suggests that Microsoft will soon add more games to the game bar equivalent.
How successful the Xbox Game Bar will be for PC players remains to be seen. The average consumer will be happy about the new functions and the easy personalization. Old-established gamers, on the other hand, are already well equipped. They use clients such as Steam, Discord, Teamspeak and Co. for communication and group search and have system information, music streams or game capture tools on their second monitor. The latter also often via in-game overlays from graphics card manufacturers such as Nvidia, which have been enabling recording and streaming via the GeForce Experience for years.
