Although a router is not always in hand like a mobile phone, as a "furnishings" in the home, a good-looking appearance can also be pleasing to the eye unless it is hidden.
Let's first talk about the appearance design of Xiaomi AX3600. When I first opened the box and saw the router, it gave me the impression that it was big, very big. The main body of Xiaomi AIoT Router AX3600 is not a flat structure like an ordinary router, but a three-sided cone design, coupled with the orange metal bar in the middle of the groove, appears to be more scientific and technological. And seven outstretched antennas make it look domineering. In addition, the middle AIoT antenna also has a LED light, which normally displays blue, while on the front panel, there are two vertical lights, one showing the status of the network, yellow when there is a failure or being connected to the network, and blue when the connection is successful. The other shows the system status, blue in normal operation, and yellow in case of failure.
There are four interfaces on the back of Xiaomi AX3600, one of which is the WLAN network cable interface, and the other three are LAN interface (gigabit network port). There is also a power interface and a reset button, in which the reset button can be pressed directly by hand. The bottom is basically covered with heat dissipation holes, but the gap is too large, and the dust can easily enter the interior.
By contrast, the shape of the HUAWEI AX3 Pro appears to be regular, not much different from common router products, and much smaller than the Xiaomi AX3600. HUAWEI AX3 Pro uses a four-antenna design, the antenna is relatively large, and there is a "Wi-Fi 6 +" label on one antenna, which is clear at a glance. In addition, there is an NFC touch area on the front of the HUAWEI AX3 Pro that allows Android phones to connect to the wireless network through NFC touch. In the middle of the panel is Huawei's iconic "H button", which supports HiLink one-button pairing and is compatible with WPS.
There are also four network cable interfaces on the back of Huawei AX3 Pro, and there is no distinction between WLAN port and LAN interface, but these interfaces are not centralized due to antenna design, and two of them are separated by the middle two antennas. The other two openings are still the power interface and the reset key.
In terms of appearance, the design of Xiaomi AX3600 is relatively novel, while HUAWEI AX3 Pro is more ordinary.
Unlike the well-known configuration parameters of smartphones, router parameters are easy to be ignored, and some specifications are described too professionally.
First of all, in terms of what Xiaomi AIoT Router AX3600 and Huawei AX3 Pro have in common, they both support the Wi-Fi 6 standard. As for Wi-Fi 6, we can also know from some press conferences that it can provide high broadband, high concurrency, and low latency compared to Wi-Fi 5. In a word, the network speed is faster, more stable, and more devices can be connected at the same time.
While the main difference between them is that the Xiaomi AIoT Router AX3600 uses Qualcomm 6-core chip, of which the four-core is A53 CPU, and the second core is the enterprise chip IPQ8071A, which is the network acceleration engine. The Huawei AX3 Pro uses HUAWEI's own quad-core chip. In addition, Xiaomi AX3600 is equipped with 512GB memory, which supports a stable connection of up to 248devices, while Huawei AX3 Pro memory has 256GB, supporting 128devices to connect at the same time. Just from the surface parameters, it seems that Xiaomi AX3600 is better.
For ordinary users, the most direct performance of the wireless router lies in how fast the network speed it can achieve, how far the coverage distance is, and whether it is stable or not. So we connect Xiaomi AIoT Router AX3600 and Huawei AX3 Pro routers to the network at the same time to compare their performance in these aspects.
It should be noted that due to non-professional testing, there will be some errors in the test data, and the test connection equipment does not support Wi-Fi 6, and both routers are set to dual-band in one (that is, the 5G or 2.4G band will be automatically adjusted according to the connection condition and distance). Above are the test results (above is Huawei AX3 Pro, and below is Xiaomi AX3600).
The first is the close-up network speed test, Huawei AX3 Pro results are even better than Xiaomi AX3600. Then test in the same corner of the room, you can see that no matter how far away, Xiaomi AX3600 is much better than Huawei AX3 Pro, which naturally has the advantage of multiple antennas.
When tested with cellular-z, the signal strength of Huawei AX3 Pro is better than that of Xiaomi AX3600 (Huawei AX3 Pro is-18dbm, Xiaomi AX3600 is-36dbm, and the higher the value are, the better the signal is). In this respect, Huawei AX3 Pro seems to be slightly better than Xiaomi AX3600.
Although it is now very convenient to set up routers, both Xiaomi and Huawei routers can automatically jump to the web page to make relevant settings when they are first set up or reset. For most people, they prefer to have a faster entrance or interface to manage the router.
Both Xiaomi and Huawei have a mobile APP to control and manage their corresponding wireless routers, the Xiaomi Mi WiFi APP of Xiaomi AIoT Router AX3600 seems to be more convenient to use. first of all, even if it is not a Xiaomi phone, you only need to install a Xiaomi Mi WiFi APP to use it normally, but HUAWEI SmartLife, the management application of Huawei AX3 Pro, also needs to install Huawei's mobile service to run, which means if you use non-HUAWEI phone to manage Huawei routers. You need to install two applications on the phone, this way is uncomfortable, so prefer to use a simple web page to manage the router. Secondly, although the Xiaomi Mi WiFi APP management interface is more complicated, there should be a lot of functions, can be very convenient to set up.
Regardless of the price, I would prefer to recommend Xiaomi AIoT Router AX3600, because its appearance is relatively more tech-savvy and performs well in performance tests. But when considering the price, the current price of Xiaomi AIoT Router AX3600 is $139.99 at Gearbest, and the price of HUAWEI AX3 Pro is about $79.99. There is not much difference between the two in the daily use of the family, so in terms of performance-to-price ratio, HUAWEI AX3 Pro is more worth buying.
