Xiaomi AirDots Pro review: the great rival of Apple's AirPods?

ByMia Wang 2019-06-10 1506

At the beginning of last January, the Asian manufacturer presented the Xiaomi AirDods Pro, a new alternative to Apple's Airpods that are characterized by a design very similar to the manufacturer's solution based in Cupertino. But is it worth the purchase? We bring you a complete analysis of the Xiaomi AirDods Pro to answer this question.

We're talking about independent wireless headphones that are much cheaper than the American manufacturer's solution; Xiaomi AirDots Pro cost only 80 euros with shipping included via Amazon, while AirPods cost around 229 euros. More than 100 euros difference between one model and another.

Xiaomi AirDots Pro vs Apple AirPods

Analysis of the Xiaomi AirDots Pro: design

In terms of design, it is clear that the Beijing-based firm has clearly drawn inspiration from Apple's independent wireless headphones to offer a product very similar to AirPods. Yes, Xiaomi wanted to launch a very clear alternative to its rival's solution, and the AriDots Pro are a clear example of this.

In keeping with the aesthetics of these independent wireless headphones, the Xiaomi AirDots come with a carrying case, as could not be otherwise in a solution of this type. While the case is slightly larger than the AirPods 2, the design is still quite restrained allowing us to carry them in our pockets without any problems. And if we take into account that it weighs only 50 grams, we can't criticize anything in this aspect.

In the front of the charging case of the Xiaomi AirDots, we find an LED indicator that will indicate the remaining battery, while at the bottom we have the USB port Type C to charge the device, in addition to a side button with which we can pair the headphones with our smartphone or tablet in a comfortable and simple.

The headphones fit perfectly to the case, although we have to say that at first it costs a little to take them out of the case, although with the passage of time you get used to its mechanism. Let's take a look at the Xiaomi AirDots Pro headphones. And we can tell you that the work done by the firm is more than correct.

To begin with, each helmet weighs less than 6 grams, so they won't bother you at all after prolonged use. In addition to this, there are interchangeable ear pads that allow us to adjust the helmets to any type of ear canal.

As you can see from the images that accompany this analysis of the Xiaomi AirDots Pro, the headphones are slightly larger than the AirPods, but in return they have more autonomy, a detail to be taken into account. And yes, as could not be otherwise in a device of this type, the new wireless headphones and independent of the Chinese firm arrive with built-in microphone to make calls comfortably, plus a touch panel that allows us to activate different functions.

Bearing in mind that we can also choose between black and white when buying the Xiaomi AirDots Pro, not to mention its resistance to water through IPX4 certification, we have to say that in terms of design have nothing to envy Apple AirPods, their great rival to beat.

Analysis of the Xiaomi AirDots Pro: features

We have already seen that the design of Xiaomi's AirDots Pro will more than meet the expectations of any user, being an excellent alternative to the American firm's AirPods. But how do they work at the auditory level? Is it worth the purchase?

On paper we find a device that has a diaphragm of 7 mm that reaches an impedance of 16 omhnios. And after having been testing Xiaomi's AirDots Pro, we have to say that the sound quality is more than remarkable. The headphones sound really good, within the range in which they are, in addition to an autonomy of up to 10 hours, another detail that makes them an excellent alternative to AirPods. And the case has a quick charge so that, in just 1 hour, its full autonomy is available.

As usual in this kind of wireless headset, the Xiaomi AirDots Pro comes with Bluetooth 4.2 so we can synchronize them with any device iOS and Android. And watch out, with its touch panel we can answer calls or activate a voice assistant to get the most out of this interesting gadget.

However, there is one big thing that has significantly hampered the user experience: when it comes to playing any content on video-on-demand platforms such as Netflix or HBO, the Xiaomi AirDots Pro wireless headset suffers a delay that completely slows down the display of content. It is not a problem if you are going to use them to listen to music, but if your idea is to take advantage of them to watch videos in this type of services, better use another solution.
