Xiaomi Pocophone F2 is expected to solve most of Pocophone F1’s drawbacks

ByGB Blog Official 2018-12-18 9138

The rumours around the upcoming Xiaomi Pocophone F2 are not quieting down — in fact, it’s quite the opposite. More and more reviewers and tech publications are speculating about what the arriving Poco F2 will look like and what major differences it will sport compared to the Pocophone F1 — and while there is not too much official information available out there, most leaks hint that Pocophone’s sequel aims to solve some of the issues and drawbacks that the previous version had.

While the Pocophone F1 is one of Xiaomi's bestselling smartphones and the cheapest phone to come with the Snapdragon 845 chipset, there is still room for improvement in the device. What could these improvements be and what are the main drawbacks of the currently available Pocophone F1?

Xiaomi Pocophone F2 design: more screen space, small teardrop notch, metal camera panel

Though the Pocophone F1 is widely praised for its performance, quite a few users have commented on the phone's design. There is rather big notch at the top of the screen, which can be a notable obstruction on the 6.18 inch display. The chin on the screen is also quite big — and you are definitely not getting the full screen experience with the Poco F1.

The phone also comes with an all-plastic body, which gives it the feel of a budget phone (which, of course, it is). What will be different on the Pocophone F2?

It is suggested that the updated model will come with a larger 6.3 or 6.4 inch screen and a much smaller notch in the trendier teardrop shape. This will bring the phone much closer to the all-screen look that is so popular among flagships — and this will be a definite upgrade for those using the phone primarily as a media device.

It is also said that the new phone will have a glass middle panel housing the cameras. One of the newly released concept videos of the phone also shows that it may come in an interesting bumblebee color scheme — a look that is very different from the classic graphite black of the Pocophone F1.

Xiaomi Pocophone F2 display: bigger, sturdier with a higher resolution and the support of Netflix in Full HD

The display on the Pocophone F1 could definitely use some improvement and we know for a fact that the new model will sport a better aspect ratio and probably a higher resolution. Another issue with the Pocophone F2 is the absence of support for Netflix and Amazon TV in HD and Full HD (the phone supports L3 but not L1 format that makes the above mentioned option available). As our phones are often used as our primary media devices, this is an important issue to taken into account — and the one that will most probably be tackled in the phone's upcoming version: it will be able to play videos from Netflix and Amazon TV Prime.

Another (and probably the biggest) drawback of the Poco F1's display is that it's quite fragile and may not be able to survive a drop to a hard surface. Thus, it is highly recommended to always have a protective case on when using the phone — and having a screen protector is also a must. There is, thus, a big chance that the new Pocophone F2 will come with some sort of screen protection like Corning Gorilla Glass.

The Pocophone F2 may come with an NFC module

There is no NFC module on the Pocophone F1 — and this means you will not be able to use a variety of mobile payment systems and other services that require near field communication. This is an especially important feature for the users in China as NFC enables a wide variety of services from mobile payments to using public transportation. The Pocophone F2 will probably come with an NFC module (as most other smartphones released later this year).

Users are expecting a less "buggy" interface

The MIUI used on the Pocophone F1 is not very well optimized. Though it is perfectly usable and able to perform all the standard functions, things could definitely be better and we hope to see similar level of optimization on the upcoming Poco F2 as we see with the Oxygen OS on OnePlus phones.

Xiaomi Pocophone F2 vs. Pocophone F1: summing things up

The Pocophone F1 has taken the concept of a budget smartphone further — it's a powerful Snapdragon 845 device taking the idea of value for money to a new level. Taking this into account, the Pocophone F2 has some big shoes to fill. However, as we can judge from leaks and rumours, the company has listened to user reviews and concerns and can expect the Pococphone F2 to at least try to tackle all the downsides of the previous model.
