2019 MacBook Air hard drive reads slower 35 % than the old one

According to the French website Consomac, the 2019 MacBook Air's SSD read last week was slower than the 2018 MacBook Air. The 2019 MacBook Air has a write speed of 1GB/s and a read speed of 1.3GB/s; the 2018 MacBook Air has a write speed of 920MB/s and a read speed of 2GB/s. In contrast, the new writing speed is slightly higher than the old one, but the reading speed has dropped by about 35%. Consomac tried to test with different types of inspection tools, and the results were almost the same.

They use Blackmagic's hard drive speed test tool. The 2019 MacBook Air 256GB hard drive has a write speed of 1GB/s and a read speed of 1.3GB/s. The same software test 2018 models, the write speed is 920MB / s, the read speed is 2GB / s.

In other words, the new write speed is slightly better than the old one, but the read speed has dropped by about 35%.

Consomac also tested other models. The 2019 128GB MacBook Air has a write speed of 500MB/s and a read speed of 1.3GB/s, but the score is similar to the 2018 128GB version of the MacBook Air. Generally speaking, a solid state hard disk is composed of a plurality of memory chips. The larger the capacity, the larger the number of chips, and the read and write speed of each chip is the same, and the read and write speeds of multiple chips are fast. Therefore, it is normal for a large-capacity SSD to be faster.

The 2019 MacBook Air is a product that Apple suddenly updated last week. Compared with the previous generation, the new screen has added the original color display technology. With the retina display, the visual effect will be better, and the domestic price is also lowered to 8899 yuan (if it is College students can also enjoy the discount at a price of 8099 yuan).

Apple did not explain why the reading speed of the new hard disk is slow, and perhaps this is one of the reasons for its price cuts, which of course makes people feel a bit uncomfortable. However, in fact, for the MacBook Air, the reading speed of 1GB/s or more is enough. After all, its positioning is not the use of "Pro" products. And Consomac didn't mention another indicator "corresponding time" to evaluate the SSD.
