The Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD) is currently working on providing basic information about churches and worship services for digital language assistants from Amazon, Apple and Google. "It is important that we are present there and that Alexa can also say a prayer when asked," said the Hesse-Nassau church president Volker Jung at the church congress in Dortmund.
The media bishop of the EKD cited the Anglican Church as an example. There the Amazon language assistant Alexa has been reading the prayer of the day on command since 2018, praying a morning or evening prayer or saying a blessing before a meal, Jung explained to the church press on the red sofa.
Alexa is also able to answer questions about baptism, knows about weddings and funerals.
Since March there has been a pilot project of the Evangelical Church in the Rhineland and the staff office for digitization of the EKD. Partner for the pilot project is the special service provider Yext, a platform for digital knowledge management. It is to transfer church service and church data in a structured form to the operators of search services and language assistants.
