Before the release of the RX 5700 graphics card, players had many guesses about naming the next-generation AMD graphics cards. Previous announcements refer to AMD's names of RX 3080, RX 3070, and RX 3060, which are cut out under NVIDIA. The success of a generation of graphics cards is appreciated to be able to ruin the old yellow.
But Lao Huang isn't so irritating: before NVIDIA applied to the EU Intellectual Property Office for ownership of such a digital sequence of 3080, 4080, 5080 reserved for future graphics cards, it's not easy for AMD to cut Hu.
Although it was not ultimately designated RX 3080/3070/3060, the name of the current RX 5700 was not originally specified, but it was changed prior to release. This was confirmed by evidence.
The PCGamesn website has recently found that the PPT material used by AMD on the E3 game show is the name of the RX 690. The card in the picture above is the RX 5700 XT 50th Anniversary Edition, but the previous PPT card name It is a limited edition of the Radeon RX 690.
Before the RX 5700, the two generations of AMD RX 480 and RX 580 graphics cards were called the RX 5700. The RX 590 graphics card was introduced at the end of last year, and is now called the 7nm RX 690. It's no coincidence.
Why AMD changed its name and what the significance of the RX 5700 series is, is still unknown. It is believed that AMD probably hopes that the RX 5700 series can be distinguished from the current RX 500/400 series. I don't want everyone to consider it the 7nm version of the GCN architecture.
