Apple is exploring installing a camera in the strap of the Apple Watch. Instead of bending their wrists, the wearer can pull up a soft watch to take a picture, or fold up the strap to take a picture.
The optical sensor is located at the end of the strap and can be photographed by "pinching the strap" or using voice control. These are novel ways to take pictures without extending your arms in any direction. When you don't have to take a picture, the camera can be placed on the strap.
Apple says that to connect the camera to the Apple Watch, the strap must also be kept soft so that the strap can be fixed to where the user wants it to be. Therefore, the strap can be made of wires, magnetorheological fluids (suspensions made of small soft magnetic particles with high permeability and low magnetic hysteresis and non-conductive magnetic fluids) or metal chains.
Apple also proposes using only one camera and placing it on a rotatable hinge so that the camera can take selfies as well as other things in the environment.
There may also be people who think this way of taking pictures is troublesome, which may be why Apple has not yet introduced the watch with a camera. Nevertheless, this patent is worth looking forward to.
