The GoPro Hero 8 Black brings a whole series of changes with it, whereby the integration of a mounting option for accessories is particularly striking from the outside. GoPro now uses the bottom of the case to accommodate two optional fold-out elements that can be attached to all kinds of accessories, first and foremost, of course, the familiar mounts of the various tripods, holders, straps and other aids.
This eliminates the need to use a special housing to accommodate the GoPro action camera, so that it can at least theoretically be attached to a tripod or other mount without a protective case or a special mounting case. Due to the position of the two folding arms at the bottom of the case, the position of the compartment for battery and memory cards also shifts: this now moves to the right side of the case, where the elements urgently needed for operation are accommodated behind an exchangeable flap.
As far as technical changes are concerned, little is known so far, but it is now clear that even the new model will not be able to record 4K videos at more than 60 frames per second. Instead, "2.7K" offers 120 FPS, which may be disappointing for some, but realistically enough for most users. Meanwhile, everything remains the same with the battery, as an exchangeable power memory with a capacity of 1220mAh or almost 4.7 watt hours is also used here.
The new GoPro Max is the successor of the so-called GoPro Fusion, a kind of action camera for 360-degree shots. In all likelihood, it will offer similar features to the Hero8, as it has the same fold-out mounting arms on the ground - so in future, an adapter or a housing will no longer be necessary to mount the camera on a tripod or other mount. GoPro also gives the Max a side-mounted compartment in which the battery and memory card are stored. In contrast to the Hero 8, there is of course a second camera above the display on the "back", which makes 360° shots possible in the first place.
