Huawei, Samsung and LG all start research on 6G now

ByFields Corrielus 2019-08-16 243

Research and development of major technologies usually began many years before they finally entered the market, although most operators are still in the early stages of 5G deployment. But Huawei has begun working on its sixth-generation network solution, 6G, at its Ottawa lab. So far, there is no standard for 6G. In addition, the research on 6G by major companies may still be in the theoretical stage.

Huawei is reported to be working closely with more than 13 universities and research institutions on the 6G network and its possible applications. According to preliminary forecasts released by Huawei, 6G technology is not expected to arrive before 2030.

In fact, as early as February 2019, Huawei announced that it would hire 200 new employees in Canada, an increase of 15 per cent in R & D investment, and that Huawei would increase its R & D investment in Canada by 15 per cent, based on a $136 million investment in 2018.

As soon as the incident occurred, it immediately aroused heated discussion among netizens. Many voices are lamenting the rapid development, "Huawei stop, wait for your users." "it looks like 7G is coming soon, and when I completely use 5G, it's time for 8G to set up a project." "5g hasn't been used yet. 6g is on its way."

Song Zhang, vice president of research strategy and partners in Canada, said, "5G is very new, and 6G is part of the evolution of 5G."The company said its Ottawa R & D laboratory would help lead Huawei's global 6G development. However, Yang Chaobin, president of Huawei's 5G product line, once said, "5G is the mainstream for the next 10 to 20 years, and 6G will come after 2030."

In fact, not only Huawei, but also world-renowned mobile equipment manufacturers such as Samsung, have launched 6G research and development. Samsung Electronics restructured its R & D center in June to form a team specializing in 6G communications technology research and development. LG Electronics, in cooperation with the famous National Institute of Science and Technology of Korea (KAIST), has opened a 6G research laboratory to ensure the core technology of 6G mobile communications.
