It is reported that Apple will probably allow users to set their preferred default applications for web browsers or emails in iOS 14, including Google's Gmail and Chrome apps, but Apple's own email and Safari are still the default apps for opening email links or URL.
In other words, with the ability to set Microsoft Outlook's Chrome as the default app, users can remove Apple's own apps from iPhone or iPad without losing any functionality. The report only mentions that emails and browsers can be replaced with other apps, and hopes that Apple will extend this option to music, task management and calendar apps.
The report also details Apple's plans to "relax" restrictions on its smart speaker HomePod when using third-party music services such as Spotify. Presumably, this means that users can set the default music provider for the speakers, rather than just using voice commands to play from the Apple music library.
