According to the Nikkei Asia Review, Apple has asked relevant supply chain companies to achieve the achievement of producing 80 million iPhone units in the first half of this year, and this seemingly reverse trend of production expansion is actually in response to surging market demand. Of the 80 million iPhone, 65 million are the old iPhone, or the iPhone 11 series, while the remaining 15 million of production goes to iPhone 9, which is unsurprisingly released in March and may not support 5G.

The news of Apple's expansion of the iPhone is not unique. Last month, Bloomberg reported that Apple had asked TSMC to increase production of A-series chips. Series A chip is an indispensable and important component of iPhone, and its increase in production reflects Apple's action to expand the production of the new iPhone from the side.
