Huawei's lab in Ottawa was established in 2010. The laboratory has extensive cooperation and exchanges with 13 universities in Canada. Huawei Labs has held discussions with relevant universities on 6G research and development.
Huawei is not the first company to launch 6G pre-research. South Korean companies are also in the forefront. In January this year, LG set up a 6G laboratory in South Korea. The South Korean government is expected to start developing 6G standards in 2021. The other two countries that say they will carry out 6G pre-research are Finland and the United States.

The Federal Communications Commission has decided to open the band from 95 gigahertz to 3 terahertz for 6G experiments. Bell Labs is currently looking for partners for pre-research.
China, Korean and Finnish companies have great advantages in 5G technology research and development, and 5G patents are at the forefront of the list. The sooner we enter 6G R&D, the more we can give full play to the previous technology accumulation and seize the commanding point of technology.
6G is still in the stage of theoretical research and development, and the key technology is still in the conceptual state, so it is difficult to describe its future development form. If 5G is the era of de-centralization of smartphones, then 6G will be the post-smartphone era and fully enter the Internet of everything, Pouttu, director of the Finnish "6Genesis" project, said in an interview with the media. However, 6G R&D will also face a variety of new challenges, such as materials, manufacturing process and energy consumption.
Huawei began research on 5G technology in 2009, when China just began to issue 3G licenses. It is understood that the pace of 6G research is basically in line with 5G, its cycle may last more than 10 years, and is not expected to be put into commercial use until 2030.
