The word Mink comes from a combination of "makeup" and "ink", and its concept and prototype were unveiled by Harvard-educated Asian beauty Grace Choi at the TechCrunch Disrupt conference in 2014.
In theory, as long as the matching 3D cosmetic printer and software, coupled with standard cosmetic basic materials, connected to any ordinary computer, Mink can easily customize the color and print out the finished cosmetic products.
The original prototype of the Mink could only print eye shadow.
The Mink printer, which weighs 2.2lb after several iterations, can be placed in a tote package and can print a total of 16.7 million different colors.
According to Mink's website, the basic cosmetic ingredients provided by the brand have been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (Food and Drug Administration).
"the beauty content is getting farther and farther away from traditional TV and print, closer to the digital," Grace Choi said.
Users are starting to draw inspiration from pictures, which makes it possible to use image color data to turn them into physical cosmetics. "
Janet Kim, co-founder and president of Mink, said: "Today's consumers have higher expectations, not only in line with their lifestyle, but also in the way and where they buy it."
The latest version of Mink simply uploads photos using the relevant app, whether from the Internet, mobile photo albums or social platforms, and then chooses to print a single color or all the colors in the picture.
After that, a piece of Mink makeup film is placed in the printer's print box, and the print instruction can be sent.
Wait 15 seconds to get a light and portable cosmetic film, and each piece of printed cosmetics can last for two weeks, and Mink has launched a special protective film to prevent the powder from getting anywhere else.
This is the first time since the launch of the Mink pre-order, a small number of equipment will be sold for $295 per unit, is expected to ship in the fall of 2020.
