The new Samsung Galaxy Z Flip joins the ranks of foldable phones, including the Galaxy Fold, Motorola Razr, Huawei Mate X and Royole FlexPai, which are redefining the way we use and think about mobile devices. Samsung launched the Galaxy Z Flip, last week and began selling it for $1380, warning that it would initially limit supply. Samsung said the phone uses a unique glass called ultra-thin glass on a 6.7-inch bendable screen.
The use of glass in Z Flip is the first time in the folding screen market, and it also provides a new idea for the industry. Glass is not as easy to scratch as plastic, is usually more durable and gives a better feel than other folding screen products. But Z Flip's glass screen has caused some controversy. The owner of the tubing up conducted a durability test on the phone, during which he found that even his fingernails could leave scratches on the phone's screen.
Samsung did not disclose how many Galaxy Z Flip, units have been sold so far.
