Samsung heavy Industries built a 3.3m model ship for autopilot experiments. The model ship, named "Easy Go", is about 1% of the size of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier, and is equipped with an automatic navigation and inertial navigation system independently developed by Samsung. As long as the destination information is entered remotely, the model ship can automatically identify the surrounding obstacles, thus avoiding obstacles and arriving at the destination smoothly.
At the same time, the model ship also supports broadband and high-speed communication, which enables the use of high-performance cameras and lidar to accurately identify the surrounding environment, as well as an electric thruster equipped with cloud platform Internet of things (IoT) technology. When manual control is needed, the ship can be controlled using 5G network in the remote control center.
Shen Ronglai, director of Samsung heavy Industry Shipbuilding Institute of Oceanography, said: "the remote automatic navigation system developed using independent technology combined with ultra-high-speed 5G network technology has created an optimal environment for research, which is of great significance. On this basis, we will lead the development of long-distance automatic navigation technology.
