TikTok creators launch their first smartphone, without their brand

It was no secret that ByteDance, the parent company of the TikTok video sharing network, was looking to launch its first smartphone in China. Here we are, with the Jianguo Pro 3. A mobile manufactured by Smartisan, a Chinese manufacturer unknown in our latitudes.

Its name is nothing like ByteDance and its logo is none other than the Smartisan hammer, but whatever, the Jianguo Pro 3 is indeed the first smartphone of the Chinese company behind TikTok. The device is no more or less than the new version of an existing Smartisan range (which partly explains its name, tip Engadget), but features a software part largely taken in hand by ByteDance, which wants to make it a platform of choice to present new features for Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok.

Jianguo Pro 3 users will be able to access Douyin directly from the locking screen, thanks to a simple upward scan. Visual effects and filters from TikTok can also be applied to videos, regardless of their duration, reports Abacus. With this first smartphone, ByteDance wants to be able to present certain functionalities in a new way, especially to an audience inclined to appreciate them.

TikTok mobile phone specification

From a technical point of view, the Jianguo Pro 3 offers rather premium features, with a Snapdragon 855+ at the controls, supported by a maximum of 12 GB of RAM. Up to 256 GB of storage is also announced. On the screen side, there is a 6.39-inch AMOLED slab with a "U" notch, while the picture is taken by four back sensors (a Sony IMX586 49MP module, a 13MP ultra wide angle 123° module, an 8MP telephoto lens and a 5MP macro lens).

ByteDance turned to Smartisan for the manufacture of its first mobile phone, it is not by chance. Last July, the group acquired a large part of the patents held by the smartphone manufacturer, based in both Beijing and Chengdu (in central China). It is surprising, however, that ByteDance chose to maintain Smartisan's original name for its first trial in the mobile market.

TikTok smartphone price and availability

The Jianguo Pro 3 is now available in China at a price of 2,899 yuan, or about 370 euros excluding tax. His arrival in Europe seems very unlikely in this state.
