For those unfamiliar with YubiKey, it's a hardware-based two-factor authentication device designed to work with hundreds of services to make your logins more secure. It's usually more convenient than software-based two-factor authentication, because you don't need to enter a security code, users just need to connect to it and click to authenticate.
The product, called YubiKey 5Ci, was first introduced at CES in January this year, with a Lightning lightning port on one end and a USB-C port on the other, so it can be used with Apple's latest iOS devices and Macs, but the iPad. Except for Pro, because it is currently not compatible with the USB-C end.
With YubiKey 5Ci, users can lock their 1Password, Bitwarden Idaptive, LastPass and Okta applications using hardware authentication. Currently, it is also available for iOS's Brave browser, which verifies logins from websites such as Twitter, Login.gov, GitHub, Bitbucket, and 1Password.
For example, with the 1Password app, you can use YubiKey to set up two-factor authentication to add an extra layer of protection to your 1Password account. This will require your master password and physical YubiKey to unlock your password library. The 1Password app instructs you to insert the YubiKey and touch the side button to confirm. Those interested in YubiKey 5Ci can purchase this product for $70 from the Yubico website.
