The box contains the following kit:
• mini PC Beelink GT-R;
• power supply unit 19 V, 3 A;
• bootable USB 3.0 drive for installing Win 10 PRO;
• 2 HDMI cords;
• mounting plate + set of screws for fastening;
• instructions for installing drives into the case;
• instruction manual.
Almost the entire body of the mini PC is made of magnesium alloy. The top cover and front panel insert are made of glossy plastic. On the cover there is a fingerprint sensor, the Beelink logo and stickers "Ryzen", "Radeon Vega8". The body is made soundly. There are no extra gaps, the parts fit tightly.
The power button is illuminated when the device is operating.
The front panel contains two USB 3.0 connectors, a USB 3.1 Type-C connector and a headphone jack. Nearby are the buttons for enabling and resetting BIOS settings. Along the edges are two digital microphones.
On the sides of the body there are large ventilation holes, which are covered with grilles.
The following connectors are located on the rear side of the case:
• power connector;
• two RJ45 connectors;
• two HDMI connectors;
• Display Port connector;
• four USB 3.0 connectors.
There are ventilation windows above the connectors, where the cooling radiator is visible.
The bottom cover is removable. Rubber strips are glued on the sides, for confident installation of the mini PC on the surface. Above there is an inscription about how to boot into the BIOS, below are the model and serial number of the device. Below there are holes for mounting the mounting plate, and a rubber handle for removing the cover when installing discs.
Removing the cover reveals a black aluminum plate that serves as a mount for a 2.5 "WD Blue hard drive and acts as a heat sink for memory sticks and SSD hard drives.
The corresponding slots on the board contain two DDR4 SO-DIMM (2x8 GB) brackets and a 512 GB NVME drive, manufactured by AZW. It is possible to additionally install an M.2 SATA3 2280 drive.
The mini PC is turned on by pressing a button on the front panel, in UEFI you can activate the power-on function. After turning on, you need to perform the initial setup of Windows 10 PRO.
Beelink GT-R is preinstalled with a licensed operating system Windows 10 PRO x64, which is automatically activated when you turn it on for the first time. The license key is registered in UEFI. If a new installation becomes necessary, the device comes with a bootable USB drive with the Windows 10 PRO installation image. No third-party software installed.
In the review, the Beelink GT-R version with two SO-DIMM DDR4-2400 memory sticks totaling 16 GB. 2 GB of RAM is used for the needs of the integrated video card Radeon ™ Vega 8. The RAM operates in dual channel mode.
An OEM NVME drive with 512 GB of memory is used as a system disk. The disk is divided into 3 sections. Two service and one user. About 476 GB is available for use. Additionally, a 1 TB WD 10SPZX hard disk is installed for storing files, the disk is divided into two partitions. Let me remind you that you can install one more drive into the device in a free 2280 M.2 SATA3 slot.
The installed AMD Ryzen 5 3550H processor has 4 cores / 8 threads of the Zen + architecture. Operates at frequencies up to 3.7 GHz (in turbo mode).
The maximum temperature for the Ryzen 5 3550H as per Tjunction datasheet is 105 ° C. Power consumption 35 W (it is possible to limit it in UEFI). The chip is manufactured using a 12 nm process technology.
AMD Ryzen 5 3550H is positioned as a laptop processor for office tasks and not too demanding games.
The stock cooling system copes well with the functions assigned to it. Under maximum load, the average CPU temperature was around 58-60°C. At Tjunction -105 ° C, this is a good indicator.
During testing, the casing of the device was barely warm, the temperature of the drives was 40°C.
The cooling system has two PWM controlled coolers. Without critical loads, in office mode, the fans are idle or operate at minimum speed without emitting perceptible noise. But during games or critical loads, both fans start to work at maximum speed. The noise from their operation is slightly louder than the noise emitted by a laptop in such operating modes. There is no low-frequency hum, the noise is more like a hiss. Not annoying, but good.
4 monitors can be connected to Beelink GT-R simultaneously. Two HDMI 2.0b ports, DP 1.4 port and USB Type-C connector are used for connection. Maximum resolution 4K @ 60fps.
The integrated graphics accelerator Radeon ™ Vega 8 has a GPU with hardware support for HVEC and VP9 codecs, there is support for video with 10-bit color and HDR.
2160P YouTube videos are played back without skipping frames.
Sound can be output via HDMI and through the headphone jack. Through HDMI, it is possible to transmit sound DD / DTS 5.1, DD + / DTS MA, DD True / DTS HR, DD Atmos / DTS X.
Cortana Windows 10 voice assistant supports English. Two digital microphones on the front panel can be used for games, Skype, Viber and more.
If you are not an avid gamer, Beelink GT-R can easily replace your home or office PC. With a combination of 16GB RAM, Ryzen5 3550H and fast system NVME storage, Windows 10PRO x64 runs smoothly and quickly.
Mini PC is great for more everyday tasks, it easily copes with work in office programs and multimedia editors.
Interesting innovations in Beelink GT-R are a fingerprint sensor on the body and support for WiFi 6. The sensor allows you to scan a fingerprint and use it when logging into the system or when accessing files and applications.
Despite the fact that the mini PC is more designed for office tasks, you can play your favorite, not the newest games on it. In more modern and demanding games, you will have to lower the graphics settings or completely abandon them.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 launched at maximum settings with a screen resolution of 1920x1080. In dynamic scenes, stable 60 fps.
At the moment, the GT-R mini PC is one of the most interesting mini desktop PCs from Beelink. The device is made in a compact metal case, has good hardware and performance. Supports WiFi6 and two Gigabit Ethernet ports to achieve excellent speeds in your home network.
The mini PC is equipped with a wide range of connectors for connecting peripheral devices. An active cooling system copes with the tasks assigned to it.
