In the first half of this year, OnePlus released two mobile phones, one was the OnePlus 7 Pro that has a phenomenal market performance, and the other OnePlus 7 that has an excellent comprehensive ability for $600.
As a high-end flagship model, the One Plus 7 Pro has demonstrated top-notch standards in every respect. In particular, the office called "Fluid AMOLED" screen has a super high 20:9 aspect ratio, and its 90Hz refresh rate has become a focus.
Compared with the OnePlus 7 Pro, the OnePlus 7 has not been pulled away too much on core hardware configuration like Snapdragon 855, UFS3.0, Sony IMX586, etc. The most important difference is the brilliant feature of the 90Hz refresh rate display, which resulted in its receiving attention not as high as the former.
Probably OnePlus didn't think that the 90Hz refresh rate screen would cause such an extensive discussion and become a "new standard" for evaluating a mobile phone screen. And this is also one of the key upgrades for the OnePlus 7T.
In terms of frontal visual effects, there is almost no difference between the OnePlus 7T and the OnePlus7. It still uses a full-screen solution with a waterdrop notch, not the motorized pop-up structure as the OnePlus 7 Pro, but still has a high aspect ratio. Besides, the "waterdrop" area and the edge of the screen are connected by a curve, which makes it looks harmonious.
Although it does not seem to have much difference, the OnePlus 7T’s parameters have been significantly improved. It measures 6.55-inch (a little bigger than One Plus 7) Full HD+ Fluid AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate and spacious 20:9 aspect ratio, and 2,400 x 1,080-pixel resolution with 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass-covered.
It is worth mentioning that the OnePlus 7T screen adopts a new generation of AMOLED luminescent materials which can reduce 40% of the short-wave blue light by officially saying, and passed the German Rhine Eye Comfort certification. Also, it supports both HDR10 and HDR10+ protocols as well as a higher peak brightness of 1,000 nits, which should make watching high dynamic range content a joy.
Let's focus on the 7T’s 90Hz refresh rate screen. The refresh rate is 90Hz by default, but you can manually ramp it down to 60Hz in the display settings if you want. In comparison to the two display levels, the 90Hz refresh rate can feel more responsive and smooth when you swipe the screen or brush the Twitter. It is difficult to go back once you've immersively experienced it.

Though they are all 90Hz screens, the optimization is different, and so to the operating experience. OnePlus has improved the 7T on its screen-aware touch and drawing process to reduce the response time of each sliding operation further. The actual feeling is quite smoother and snappier on scrolling.

Every interaction is exceptionally smooth, and gaming is no exception. OnePlus announced that the QQ car is fitted with the 90Hz mode configured on OnePlus 7 Pro. Now except the QQ car, the OnePlus 7T is also applicable to many other games, such as PUBG Mobile, Games for Peace, Ace Force, BuildTopia, Cyber Hunter, CrossFire and other games.
There are two more words about 90Hz in-game applications. Since the high frame rate mode has higher requirements for endurance and heat dissipation, from the perspective of game makers, it is cautious in running a high frame rate considering the game experience of more players.
So what we can see is that although on hardware aspect the OnePlus 7T can provide enough support, it is limited to several mobile games with a relatively large number of players in markets for now. The situation should be changed in the future as more handsets with a 90Hz refresh rate will be released. But this change process is based on more collaboration work of upstream and downstream enterprises to promote jointly.
Like most flagship phones today, the OnePlus 7T also eliminates the 3.5mm headphone jack. Still, it is equipped with dual speakers that support Dolby Atmos, and has a large speaker opening at the top of the fuselage, loud enough, so that you can still get a good sound effect even when the palm blocks the bottom speaker during gaming outside.
In other respects, the Haptic vibration motor has been improved on OnePlus 7T, which performs better than OnePlus 7. Additionally, this time, the 7T also adopts a new generation of screen fingerprinting scheme, which has an excellent performance in recognition accuracy and unlocking speed.
The back color of the fuselage is an individual part of the OnePlus 7T. There are two colors of ice blue and glacial silver to select. The article shows my favorite ice blue version, and the actual color is slightly lighter than the OnePlus 7 Pro of star fog blue.
After the Vivo NEX 3 series and the Huawei Mate 30 series, the OnePlus 7T became the third one with the circular camera bump design, which is also a noticeable difference from the OnePlus 7.
While the above models are all designed with a circular camera housing, the camera lens arrays are different. OnePlus arranges three lenses horizontally in its circular bump as well as a flash unit. The purpose of this arrangement is to reduce the number of openings in the back cover, keeping a relatively better integrality of the body.
As far as the visual effect is concerned, it may be more or less unattractive at first glance because of the overall larger opening area, but feels good for a long time. As for why it is done, it is not difficult to understand.
Multiple camera lenses of either horizontal or vertical arrangement not only affects the overall perception of the back cover but also has a higher chance of accidentally touching the camera during use. It is conceivable that if the Nokia 9 PureView arranges the cameras in a straight line, there may be no other space in the center of its back cover.
And then, the benefits of circular design become apparent. It provides space in both the vertical and horizontal directions. You can put the camera lenses fully in this area. And if you follow the previous mainstream arrangement, the look and feel are not as seamless and balanced as the circular design.
Except for the camera part, there's another difference from the OnePlus 7 is the process of back cover. It uses the same matte glass back cover as the OnePlus 7 Pro of Star Mist Blue, which is treated with the 4th generation AG glass process and felt very delicate in the palm of your hand.h
At the same time, the glass cover can also visually transform in different lighting conditions. Of course, matte glass doesn't attract fingerprints, which makes it friendly to many users who love cleanliness.
What is worth mentioning after the outer appearance is the OnePlus 7T’s touch feeling. Though inside is the more powerful Snapdragon 855 Plus, the thickness of the fuselage is controlled at 8.13mm, and the weight is just 190g, making it slimmer and lighter than the OnePlus 7 Pro, and a handset with the most comfortable holding among the recently released phones on the market.
As for selfie cam, The 7T has the same configuration of front camera as the OnePlus 7: 16 megapixel, Sony IMX471 sensor, f/2.0 aperture, face unlock, and AI beauty selfie, etc.
The main upgrade is the rear camera. The OnePlus 7 rear camera has a 48-megapixel primary lens + 5-megapixel depth of field lens, and there is no super wide-angle lens, which makes it less playable. But it has been made up to the OnePlus 7T.
On the back of the OnePlus 7T is assembled with a triple-lens camera array. The primary camera has 48-megapixels, a Sony IMX586 sensor, an f/1.6 aperture, and both optical and electronic stabilization. The second ultra-wide-angle lens has 16 megapixels, a Sony IMX481 sensor, an f/12.2 aperture, and shoots 117-degree images. Finally, the 12-megapixel telephoto lens has a Samsung S5K3M5 sensor, an f/2.2 aperture, and a 2x optical zoom.
Other than that, OnePlus also adds a super anti-shake function to video (based on the super wide-angle lens) for the 7T, which can be turned on in the camera interface. The actual anti-shake effect is perfect. At the same time, the macro and super wide-angle modes surely enhance the playability of video recording.
Finally, let's talk about the 7T’s Super Night Scene mode. As can be seen from the effect of our real shots, the adjustment is not "stupid," but it captures the real color effect and details of the object as much as possible while ensuring sufficient brightness of the picture. And the actual output of the sample pictures looks excellent and impressive.
In terms of core hardware configuration, the OnePlus 7T has been upgraded to the Snapdragon 855+ with 8GB LPDDR4X RAM and provides tow options of 128GB and 256GB UFS 3.0 storage space.
Snapdragon 855 Plus has been familiar to everyone. Compared with Snapdragon 855, they are almost the same architecturally in CPU. But the “Plus” has improved the performance of GPU by 15%. What’s more, it supports Elite Gaming and performs better than the Snapdragon 855 in-game scene.
Then let’s have a look at the OnePlus 7T’s running points. Ann Bunny scored 482,770 points, Lu master scored 397,939 points, Geekbench single-core score of 3,625 points, and multi-core score of 11,364 points, which proves that the 7T can smoothly run the mainstream large mobile games on the market.
On the system side, the OnePlus 7T is also the first to adapt to the Android 10 with a new OxygenOS 10.0. In this version, OnePlus optimizes the commonly used animation and interactive scenes, brings the full-screen gesture control of the sliding back, and upgrades the "meditation mode," which now supports setting the duration, one-click sharing "meditation" achievements and other functions.
Other than the above, OxygenOS 10.0 also added a voice assistant "shortcut." In addition to the regular voice capabilities, OnePlus focuses on its application in the car driving, which can intelligently push real-time traffic information. According to the official, the onboard wake-up rate can reach 93%, and even with the interference of external music and navigation, it can still achieve more than 90% recognition accuracy.
Battery life is also an essential factor that will be concerned when selecting a handset. Since the screen size is increased, the battery capacity of the OnePlus 7T is also increased from 3700mAh to 3800mAh. In the 90Hz mode, in my testing, there is no problem with regular use for one day.
While it is just a minor improvement in battery capacity, the other addition to the OnePlus 7T is fast charging thanks to OnePlus' "Warp Charge 30T" charging tech. According to our actual test, it can be charged from 1% to 12% in 5 minutes, 36% in 15 minutes, 72% in 30 minutes, and 60 minutes in full charge.
Though nominally, the OnePlus 7T ending in the "T" is an upgrade of the OnePlus 7, it is almost a comprehensive redesign on all fronts from the appearance to the core hardware configuration. Such a big improvement is unusual in the mid-term upgrade and related derivatives.
90Hz refresh rate screen, Warp Charge 30T, OxygenOS 10.0 based on Android 10, Snapdragon 855+, USF3.0, and many other features are all assembled on the OnePlus 7T, again showing its pursuit for the "Fast and Smooth" experience that the OnePlus always emphasizes.
And at the same time, it continues the comprehensive nature of the previous generation of products: full-featured NFC, new linear motor, faster refresh rate, and Warp flash charging 30T that supports fast charging while playing, etc. Fully functional as well as highly featured.
Except for the above mentioned, slim at 8mm, lightweight at 190g that is currently rare, with the new AG process, the OnePlus 7T has a significant improvement in the comfort of holding as well as the availability itself.
In summary, as a flagship product, the OnePlus 7T is in the top-specced position in terms of performance and process, and it is not too much to justify it with a new benchmark of $600.
Finally, as for price, the 8GB+128GB version of OnePlus 7T is $600, while the 8GB+256GB version is also $600 on the Gearbest Flash sale. Oh, yes, OnePlus also provides an aramid fiber (Kevlar) protective case that I like very much. If you have to have the most powerful top-specced phone out there, then the OnePlus 7T is the way to go.
