Huawei FreeBuds 3: In the box

Inside the box, you will find a round-shaped charging case in a protective film and inside it was earbuds.

You will also find a Type-C charging cable and a brief instruction for connecting and controlling the device.

Huawei FreeBuds 3: Design

The new generation of Huawei FreeBuds 3 has a typical appearance, like previous models of FreeBuds 2 or FreeBuds 2 Pro. Of course, you may find slight differences, but the design remains almost untouched.

This type of inserts may not be suitable for every user. But oddly enough, they sit comfortably and even with prolonged use, you will not feel discomfort. In addition, the FreeBuds 3 wireless earbuds have a comfortable fit both during sports and during everyday use.

The open-fit earbuds received black glossy plastic, naturally, it will be easily soiled and leave fingerprints, but on white, it will be less noticeable than on black.

The build quality at the highest level, there were no any creaks and gaps made perfectly. Of course, there can be no other, when the price tag is higher than $ 100.

Huawei FreeBuds 3 have in combination not only plastic but also a metal insert on the lower base, where the microphone is located.

On the front side, there is a typical touchpad for control and an LED indicator. Touch control works quickly and accurately, you can also customize the control for yourself.

The sound guides are round in shape and have a protective metal mesh to prevent foreign debris and dust.

In addition, the open-fit earbuds have an infrared sensor at the base of the sound guide. It pauses the music when you remove one of the earbuds from the ear canal.

The Huawei FreeBuds 3 are IPX4 splashproof and water-resistant.

The charging case is made of the same glossy plastic as the FreeBuds 3 open-fit earbuds themselves and has a round shape. The dimensions and weight are minimal, and it also fits easily into your jeans pocket.

The lid has a magnetic connection and it does not play, it opens accurately and without any questions. The earbuds also stay inside the case thanks to the magnetic connection. Between the landing of the earbuds, you can see the LED indicator of the charge level.

On the bottom of the case is a Type-C port for charging, it is also worth noting that the box has wireless charging.

Huawei FreeBuds 3: Connection and control

If you are using a smartphone from Huawei with EMUI 10 or higher, then to connect the earbuds to the device, you just need to open the cover and remove the headphones. Next, a pairing window will pop up on your mobile device, as is the principle on versions from Apple or Samsung.
If you have another device, then pairing will be carried out like any other wireless earbuds. You need to go to the Bluetooth menu on your mobile device and select FreeBuds 3 from the list. Further connections will be automatic.

In addition, the open-fit earbuds received additional settings through the Huawei AI Life mobile application.

The main features of the Huawei AI Life application are the control settings for the multifunctional touch panel. You can customize the control for yourself and set which gestures will respond to your commands.

Huawei FreeBuds 3: Sound

Inside the body of the Huawei FreeBuds 3 open-fit earbuds, a 14 mm dynamic driver is installed, which works in conjunction with Huawei’s proprietary Kirin A1 processor.

In terms of sound quality, the FreeBuds 3 earbuds got a pretty good sound. The low frequencies are well matched, they got fast dynamics with perfect detail.

A clear sound will pleasantly surprise you, but the bass is not so strong. Most likely the bass is lost, since the headphones do not sit so tightly, as for example with ear pads.

The mid and high frequencies are also well defined, have the correct character of the sound. At maximum volume, sounds do not creak or cut your hearing, so even at maximum volume, you can listen to your favorite music.

The microphone quality is good, as the main microphone is located at the bottom of the open-fit earbuds.

The main feature of Huawei FreeBuds 3 is the presence of ANC active noise canceling, oddly enough, the function works perfectly and copes with its task completely. If the noise is not strong, the noise-canceling level will be negligible and vice versa. As the practice has shown, the ANC function is really useful, even not in the noisiest places. When the ANC function is on, the sound becomes more saturated and surrounds.

Huawei FreeBuds 3: Battery

Inside each Huawei FreeBuds 3 earbud is a 30 mAh battery capacity. This is a very small indicator and during testing, the earbuds were able to work for about 3.5 hours with ANC turned on and at maximum volume.

Also, we have an additional case for 410 mAh battery capacity, which is able to charge the headphones about 4 more times. The total time will be approximately 18 hours, of course, if you listen to 60-70% of the volume level, the figure will be slightly higher.

A full charge of the earbuds through the Type-C port will be about 1 hour. Also, in the charging case, there is 2W wireless charging – the charging time will be 3 times longer.

Huawei FreeBuds 3: Conclusions

The new generation of Huawei FreeBuds 3 has both strengths and weaknesses.

The sound quality is not the highest when compared with competitors, but maybe – it concerns the design since there are sound losses. Another disadvantage is not a high battery life – about 4 hours at a 70% volume level and this is not the best indicator.

The build quality and materials are at a decent level, the active noise canceling the operation in the automatic mode and the activation of this ANC function, the sound becomes denser and more saturated.

Functional touch control and settings through the mobile application will allow you to manage any gestures as you wish.
