After the release of DJI Mavic 2, quadcopter features have seen a massive upgrade both in terms of hardware and software. FIMI X8 SE, for instance, is quite similar to Mavic 2 in almost every area. The major difference between the two drones is the absence of a FIMI X8 SE. DJI has also set a record of less than 250g FPV drone with its Mavic Mini.

There are quite a good number of quality camera drone products in the market today. Some of these include HusbanDJI and Xiaomi's FIMI.

Xiaomi is one of the biggest Chinese electronics brands with its headquarters in Beijing. They produce different electronic products and accessories which are currently making their rounds in the markets. Xiaomi products are known for their quality and their extended battery life. FIMI X8 SE is a quadcopter from the Xiaomi brand.


DJI is also a force to reckon with in the quadcopter market. DJI Mavic Mini is the latest series of camera drones from DJI. Apart from producing camera drones, DJI also makes stabilizers. Their stabilizer models have won many internationally recognized awards for premium quality.


Hubsan is another leading Chinese electronics brand with more emphasis on the camera drone market. It has launched many camera drones models that lots of users are still enthusiastic about. Hubsan Zino 2 is an upgraded model of the predecessor - the Zino Pro.

HUBSAN ZINO 2 vs DJI MAVIC MINI vs FIMI X8 SE COMPARISON

1) Camera

All the models have 3-axis gimbal and have an image pixel of 12M. DJI Mavic mini gives the least camera resolution of 2.7K. FIMI X8 SE and Hubsan Zino 2 both have 4K resolution.

FIMI S8 XE comes with a powerful SONY IMX378 shooting sensor plus the f/2.2 aperture. DJI Mavic Mini features a 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor front camera plus 83° of FOV and f/2.8 aperture. 


2) Remote Control

All three camera drones feature 5.8GHz Wireless Remote Control WiFi functionality. Their remotes have separate batteries and connection range differs in the three quadcopters. Hubsan Zino 2 gives the highest connectivity range at 6 km. It is closely followed by FIMI X8 SE, which has a range of 5 km. DJI Mavic Mini gives the listed range of 4 km.

The FIMI X8 SE comes with a stretchable remote controller pouch, that can house different types of mobile devices. Hubsan Zino 2 also has an adjustable remote controller kit that can house a fewer range of mobile devices when compared against the FIMI X8 SE.


3) Gimbal

They all have a 3-axis gimbal drone camera function. Users can also attach or detach gimbal at will in all the three quadcopters. You can enjoy glitch-free images even under windy conditions with their tilt, roll and pan gimbal features.


4) Battery

Xiaomi products are distinguished for having higher battery life, FIMI X8 SE proves this right. It comes with a 4500mAh battery which can power the camera drone for up to 33 minutes. Hubsan Zino 2 has a battery capacity of 3800mAh, yet it can also give 33 minutes of professional quality videos just like in FIMI X8 SE. DJI Mavic Mini comes with the least battery capacity of 2400mAh. Based on battery life comparison, it gives a maximum of 30 minutes camera drone fly time.

These drones may not always stay up for the specified maximum flight time. This is a result of a number of factors. For instance, Sports Mode in many camera drones drains the battery. When in Sports mode, some camera drones may only achieve 20 minutes of flight time.


5) Design

All three copters come in easily foldable designs which make them easy to pack and carry about. Hubsan Zino 2 and FIMI X8 SE are quite larger and heavier than DJI Mavic Mini. Hence, Mavic Mini users in the U.S need not register their drones with the FAA. The extra size of Hubsan Zino 2 and FIMI X8 SE means users will have to register with FAA. 


6) Flight Performance

Hubsan Zino 2: During the flight, the FPV drone was able to max 4500 meters before losing connection with the remote control. This is about 1500 below the manufacturer's claim. At an average wind speed of 30 km/h, the camera drone quality was still very good. At about 42 km/hr wind speed, the drone was seen to be tossed back and forth and video quality appears to reduce as we began to see glitches.

In default mode, Zino 2 was able to give 25 minutes of flying time when the battery percentage was at 20%.

DJI Mavic Mini: When on Sports mode, the battery level ran down to zero at 22 minutes. The quadcopter was able to give nice video footage without glitches even at a wind speed of about 43km/h. Often when displaced by wind, Mavic Mini tries to return to its balanced position without affecting video quality. 

On the return home test, we found out that Mavic Mini is about 85% accurate when it tries to return to its take-off point. Usually, when its battery is low, the remote will prompt the user to let the device return. It landed a few centimeters away from the exact take-off point. And on two out of ten tries, it landed on the exact spot.

FIMI X8 SE: This camera drone seems to be more stable in windy conditions than the other two. At an average wind speed of 45 km/h, it was still holding firm. The device features more video modes than the other two. We were able to achieve 29 minutes fly time when the device was flown in default mode. After 29 minutes of fly time, the battery was totally drained. 

It is not advisable to drain batteries of camera drones as it will diminish battery life. We only did this to test if the manufacturer's claim is accurate.
At a height of about 4200 meters, video quality was still superb. However, beyond 4300 meters, the video quality begins to diminish, especially during windy conditions. You may see a few glitches in the live video feeds.

7) Other Features

DJI Mavic Mini is the only 3-axis gimbal drone among the three that has the geofencing capacity. Geofencing help drone users to be more responsible in the use of drones so that they do not interfere with airport signals. 

The lack of geofencing in both Hubsan Zino 2 and FIMI X8 SE is well compensated for by their active tracking system. With the tracking system, users can easily tell the whereabouts of the drone. Of course Mavic Mini does not have an auto-tracking feature.

It is observed that all three models do not have an obstacle avoidance feature. Without this feature, many drones rely on the user to navigate through obstacles.


8) Price

Hubsan Zino 2 costs $399.99 while DJI Mavic Mini costs $599.99. FIMI X8 SE costs $529.99 presently. Official reports say FIMI X8 SE will be sold for $499 from 15th January 2020.

CONCLUSION 

DJI Mavic Mini camera low resolution remains its major drawback in comparison with the other two camera drones. As a matter of fact, Mavic Mini is associated with upcoming photographers. You will need a minimum of 4K resolution if you want to go pro with your camera drone.

Choosing either FIMI X8 SE or Hubsan Zino 2 should give a better video quality experience. However, if the geofencing feature is really important, getting a DJI Mavic Mini is well worth the price (without considering its low camera resolution).
