As "Battle Angel" who is known as "a beauty and a warrior", Xiaomi's latest flagship, Mi 9 is in my hands now. Having carried out an overall test of its parameters and performance, for sure, I admire it so much and want you to know everything about it as well.
Hands-On Experience and Review
Although I am demanding in configuration and performance of digital devices, I can't use too many words to praise to Xiaomi Mi 9, for its configuration meets my expectation.
Xiaomi Mi 9 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 which is different from other Snapdragon Octa-core processors. Snapdragon 855 has a super high-performance core with 2.84GHz main frequency, surrounded and supported by three 2.4GHz cores and four 1.8GHz cores.
Owing to this feature, Snapdragon 855 is advertised as the best flagship processor so far on this planet, with its 45% uplift in single-core performance compared with the Snapdragon 845.
So, to how much extent on earth does the Snapdragon 855 outperform other processors?
After a few days of hands-on experience, I am convinced that Xiaomi Mi 9 excels in offering high fluency during gaming. Overall, the frame rates remain high, and the visual experience is impeccable.
Thus, the performance of Snapdragon 855 is remarkable when there are an excessive amount of NPC dialogues, CG scenes, and fight scenes.
2.Screen and In-display Fingerprint Sensor
Next, we shall come to the in-display fingerprint recognition.
Featuring the 6.39-inch FHD+AMOLED screen, Xiaomi Mi 9 is a remarkable combination of Corning Gorilla Glass 6th generation and the fifth-generation in-display fingerprint sensor.
Undoubtedly, Xiaomi Mi 9 is the front runner, setting the in-display fingerprint sensor as part of the standard of flagship smartphones. The fifth-generation in-display fingerprint sensor can unlock the phone as soon as you leave the fingerprint.
Honestly, the sensor works fast and accurately for each time. This virtue deserves admiration.
But for those who don't get used to unlocking with fingerprints, or those who don't care too much about their privacy, I suggest unlocking Xiaomi Mi 9 in these two ways, namely, waking it up with double tap or using Face ID.
Unlocking Xiaomi Mi 9 with the help of in-display fingerprint scanner, you can feel silky smoothness.
Like others or Mi 8 users, you may suspect that in low light conditions, unlocking Xiaomi Mi 9 with fingerprints is a problem, on account of its lack of an infrared camera.
Don't worry about it! I've done a variety of tests on this issue. I can assure you that the unlocking speed is fast in all cases as it is not influenced by low light.
The last thing I want you to know about the screen is that I am interested in the full screen of Xiaomi Mi 9 for quite a while, thanks to its ease of use.
3.Taking Photos and Filming
a. Taking Photos
At the moment, Xiaomi Mi 9 features the most popular triple camera which enables "Quad Bayer" in the normal mode, merging every 4 pixels of 48MP photos to form high-quality 12MP photos.
Moreover, the camera also boasts the high-resolution mode for 48MP photos, which is owed to the Sony IMX586 48MP 1/2-inch CMOS sensor, because the Sony IMX586 sensor is integrated with Sony exposure control technology and deep signal processing, allowing the real-time output of 48MP images.
The dynamic range of IMX586 is four times as wide as traditional CMOS, resulting in a perfect balance when processing the brightness.
According to my contrastive analysis of pictures taken by Xiaomi Mi 9, the 48MP mode (high-resolution mode) can produce more details of the same scene in the same condition than the 12MP mode does.
After uploading pictures to Twitter, I've found that the 48MP photos prove to be better, allowing me to zoom in as many times as I can with Mi 9.
Thus, we can conclude that Xiaomi Mi 9 has made significant progress in terms of hardware.
The camera of Mi 9 supports long-time filming in different resolutions, including 4K 60fps, 4K 30fps, 1080P 60fps, 1080P 30fps, and 720P 30fps.
Xiaomi Mi 9, with its motion tracking on, manifests impressive stability.
It is worth mentioning that the wide-angle camera of Xiaomi Mi 9 performs exceptionally well in tracking mode. Theoretically, it is because of the relatively wide angle and the optical image stabilization that the camera can achieve such a stable effect.
4.Charging and renewal
Xiaomi Mi 9 loaded with a 3300mAh battery, supports QC4+ 27W wired charging. It is also the first smartphone to apply the 20W Qi wireless charging.
In my test, the charging speed of Xiaomi Mi 9 is just moderate. Does the 27W quick charge help this device with a 3300mAh battery?
We should consider the question in different conditions:
A. if you can charge the phone midway, then we say the quick charging can alleviate a lot of pressure on battery life.
B. if you can charge it all day long, you should think highly of this feature, because the battery life is to mobile phones as the mileage is to electric cars.
Let me put it this way: if there aren't charging stations between the departure and the destination, you can't go far, no matter how advanced the charging technology is. Similarly, if by any means, you can't charge the phone during a day of the hustle and bustle, there is no doubt that your smartphone will be nothing more than a brick.
As for me, the battery life of Xiaomi Mi 9 isn't satisfying, because the battery can merely last for a day, on the condition of moderate use.
In a nutshell, I've become obsessed about Xiaomi Mi 9. Its excellent performance in all aspects stun me so much. If you are interested in Xiaomi Mi 9, just go for it, and I promise that you'd never regret.
