OPPO Realme X50 5G Reviews: Comes with 120Hz Display Refresh Rate and Dual-Mode 5G

You could experience not only 5G but also a display with a 120Hz refresh rate.

The first 5G phone of OPPO Realme arrives. Let’s see its performance.

120Hz Refresh Rate, Dual Front Cameras

Many new words of phones showed up in 2019, of which 90Hz display refresh rate is a representative. The refresh rate is likely to be the new standard to evaluate if a display is good enough. OPPO Realme X2 Pro released last October also packs a display with a 90Hz display refresh rate, which has a good reputation.

This time, Realme X50 5G mobile adopts a display of a 120Hz refresh rate.

If a 90Hz display refresh rate is smooth enough, why should we choose a 120Hz display? It’s well known that the picture on display is made up of many images. A refresh rate is the number of times the display updates with new images each second. Simply speaking, a higher refresh rate means the interval between two images smaller, which results in a smoother picture.

A display with a high refresh rate is a necessity for a smooth experience, and the other key factor is GPU. Improving the refresh rate is helpful if the GPU is powerful, and that’s why the experience of the 90Hz display is better than 60Hz.

It is not very easy to feel the difference between a 120Hz display and a 90Hz display on daily use, such as using Twitter, Reddit or scrolling on a screen. Because the experience is smooth and user-friendly. So the 120Hz refresh rate is meaningless? Of course not.

With a 120Hz refresh rate, the advantage of GPU is showed completely in streaming and gaming. As more and more games add a high frame rate mode, the 120Hz provides an enjoyable gaming experience for you, which a 60Hz display or a 90Hz display couldn’t offer.

Accordingly, the higher the refresh rate, the shorter the battery life, which has aroused a discussion in the 90Hz refresh rate display phones before. Therefore, Realme X50 5G provides three display setting options of intelligent switching, 120Hz and 60Hz. You could choose the display refresh rate based on your preference in different scenarios of use.

Except for the 120Hz refresh rate, Realme X50 5G is equipped with a hole-punch full display. The cutout on display has an f/2.0 aperture Sony IMX471 primary lens with a resolution of 16MP, which is coupled with an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens with 105° field-of-view.

The aperture of a lens is 4.88mm, which hardly affects the display. The 6.57-inch LCD offers an aspect ratio of 20:9 and delivers a resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels.

Not surprisingly, Realme X50 5G also comes with a side-mounted fingerprint reader. The speed and accuracy are better than other alternatives. The reader is located upper to avoid accidental touches.

Snapdragon 765G, Dual Mode 5G

Regarding appearance and design, Realme X50 5G offers two color options, Polar White and Glacier Blue. It’s officially announced that they use nano-coating and optical plating in process. Under the sunshine, you could clear texture effects about lines on the rear shell.

Next, let’s talk about 5G. There are three storage options of Snapdragon 765G mobile platform, including 8GB+128GB, 6GB+256GB and 12GB+256GB. Its RAM is LPDDR4X, and ROM is UFS2.1.

Snapdragon 765G chipset chooses a Kryo 475 CPU and a 1+1+6 architecture. It is equipped with a 2.4GHz super large core, a 2.2GHz performance core, and six 1.8GHz efficiency cores. Thanks to the new Adreno 620, the Snapdragon 765G improves performance by 10% compared to Snapdragon 765.

The Snapdragon X52 modem integrated supports for mmWave, sub-6 GHz TDD, FDD, and the download speed up to 3.7Gbps. It also provides Dynamic Spectrum Sharing, SA/NSA dual-mode network, Multi-SIM and 5G for truly global coverage.

Realme X50 5G supports 5G main frequency bands, including n1, n41, n78 and n79. You do not need to worry about the frequency bands.

Besides web connections, there are more electronic components in 5G phones than 4G phones. So all 5G phone makers emphasize the capacity of heat dissipation. The heat dissipation system of Realme X50 5G includes two parts. One part uses many layers and cooling materials, the other features an 8mm liquid-cooled copper pipe.

The Realme X50 5G is powered by a 4200mAh battery. The enhanced version of the 30W VOOC Flash Charge 4.0 technology can fill the battery of the phone to 70% from scratch in just 30 minutes, with 20W VOOC flash charging and 15W PD fast charging. The company has reduced the internal resistance to optimize charging efficiency, that’s why the enhanced version is much faster than VOOC Flash Charge 4.0.

Quad Rear Camera, 64MP Primary Camera

Realme X50 5G packs a quad rear camera system. It comprises of a 1/1.7-inch Samsung GW1 64MP main lens with an f/1.8 aperture. Four cameras could work together for a more sensitive photo.

There are also three lenses, including an f/2.5 aperture 12MP telephoto lens offering 2x optical zoom, 5x hybrid optical zoom and max 20x hybrid zoom with a focal length of 54mm, an f/2.3 aperture 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens with 119°field-of-view, an f/2.4 aperture 2MP macro lens with a focal length of 4cm.

To conclude, the effect of the photo is satisfying because of appropriate photo editing. The Night Mode handles highlight quite well. About the video, the rear cameras are blessed with two stabilizers, UIS Super Image Stabilizer and UIS Super Image Stabilizer (further OTA). People who like to vlog may be interested in them.

Innovative Realme UI, Functional NFC

Before Realme X50 5G, Realme featured the ColorOS system all the time. Now Realme UI comes, based on Android 10. The company makes optimization and personalized changes based on ColorOS 7. Realme UI features a whole new interface, such as colors, icons, wallpaper, layout, and animation.

For visual experience, Realme UI chooses bright background colors for youth. Among many functions like settings, style personalized and three fingers to take a screenshot, I prefer Dark Mode for a clean and natural interface.

Realme X50 5G also supports functional NFC, enabling daily used applications like mobile payment, electronic ticket, access card, and eID. But it uses a rotor motor, not a linear motor. After great adjustment, there is still a difference in the actual effect of vibration.

All in all, Realme X50 5G has brilliant performance in 5G connection, heat dissipation, and battery as the first 5G Realme smartphone. It makes progress in user experience with a 120Hz display. Realme, as a young brand, the support from OPPO makes its technology and materials reliable.
