Xiaomi Mi Air 2 (AirDots Pro 2) vs. Mi AirDots Pro vs. Redmi AirDots Wireless Earphones: What’s the Difference? Should You Upgrade to the Latest TWS?

Earlier this year, Xiaomi launched the Redmi AirDots alongside Redmi Note 7 Pro. Aside from being an affordable wireless earbud, Redmi AirDots features impressive qualities such as a stable connection with its Bluetooth 5.0, 12-hour battery life, and 40mAh battery capacity for an earbud.

Also, it possesses deep bass, high-quality stereo audio, among others. Despite having similar high-end qualities as other expensive earbuds in the market, it comes at a ridiculously low price.

Since the release of Redmi AirDots, several users have heaped praises on the product, claiming that it’s a pretty nice “AirPod clone” that offers good value for money.

However, Xiaomi, as we know, is a brand that loves to improve in quality with every product. Hence, the release of the Xiaomi Redmi AirDots was followed by an upgrade, namely the Xiaomi AirDots Pro.

As expected, this product also features something unique. It comes with IPX4 water resistance quality and ANC property, among other “regular” earbud properties.

Despite the global acceptance of the Xiaomi AirDots Pro, the brand even went further to produce to the newly released Pro 2 version of the Xiaomi AirDots, which is known as the Xiaomi Mi Air 2, or Xiaomi AirDots Pro 2.

This latest TWS features the new MIUI 11. More so, just like the Apple AirPods, the AirDots Pro 2 is designed to establish a connection once the dock is opened.

Furthermore, users are allowed to customize the function connected to the single touch on both the right and left pieces. According to Xiaomi, AirDots Pro 2 offers full bass and clear sounds to users. Also, it features a voice command system that interacts with the assistant Xiaomi AI.

However, with the fascinating properties, value, and affordability of these three products from Xiaomi, understandably, one could be confused about what to go for among the models.

Hence, in this piece, we’ll be discussing the three models (i.e., Xiaomi Mi AirDots Pro 2, Xiaomi AirDots Pro, and Xiaomi Redmi AirDots), as well as comparing their qualities. Eventually, you will be able to decide whether to upgrade to the latest TWS or not. Kindly read to the end!

Xiaomi Mi Air 2 (AirDots Pro 2) vs. Mi AirDots Pro vs. Redmi AirDots comparison

· Design

Right from the Xiaomi Redmi AirDots to the AirDots Pro 2, the three models from the brand are designed with a unique style. While Redmi AirDots and Mi AirDots Pro 2 are designed with an ABS material, AirDots Pro comes with a plastic-made body.

Also, compared to the Redmi AirDots, which is available as black-colored stout earbud, the other models are available in white color with stems like the Apple Airpods. Both Redmi AirDots and AirDots Pro feature an in-ear design while Air 2 comes with a semi in-ear design.

Among the three models, the AirDots Pro has the highest weight of 5.8g for each earbud compared to the 4.1g weight found with Redmi AirDots and 4.5g of Mi Air 2

The three models feature a single multifunction button. Furthermore, compared to the 7.2mm sound unit and 7mm sound unit found in the Redmi AirDots and AirDots Pro, respectively, the latest release features a whopping 14.2mm large speaker that produces full bass.

· Features

While the three models share some characteristics, they also possess some distinct differences regarding their features.

First off, Mi AirDots Pro is designed with Bluetooth 4.2, whereas Redmi AirDots and Mi AirDots Pro 2 features the Bluetooth 5.0 chip for connection, which makes them quite faster and more stable. Also, compared to the Bluetooth 4.2, it allows the models to utilize less power, and transmit audio faster.

Another exciting similar feature between the three models is that they possess voice control support with the Xiaomi AI.

However, while the AirDots Pro features Active Noise Cancellation property (ANC), both Redmi AirDots and Air 2 are designed with intelligent Environment Noise Reduction quality.

With the environment noise reduction property, the transmission of environmental noise will be reduced while talking with the earpieces. Also, the property allows for high call quality and high-def speech recognition.

However, Air 2 distinctly stands out among the other models by supporting LHDC Bluetooth decoding HD sound, as well as featuring an in-built 14.2mm composite diaphragm moving ring that enables high-pitched and transparent sound delivery from the human voice and musical instruments.

In other words, users will get better music experience from the Air 2 compared to the other two models.

· Connectivity

To begin with, the three models are compatible with mobile phones. Also, all of the three products are wireless, featuring Bluetooth chips.

However, among the three devices, only AirDots Pro is designed with Bluetooth 4.2 chip – a relatively old version. On the other hand, Redmi AirDots and Air 2 possesses Bluetooth 5.0, which offers improved and faster connectivity.

More so, this improved chip ensures that users won’t experience any lag in audio while seeing a movie. Without any obstacles, the three models can connect with mobile phones at a distance of ten meters.

Also, it is worth noting that the models work with Android and IOS powered smartphones. While both Redmi AirDots and Xiaomi AirDots Pro have a water resistance rating of IPX4, Air 2 water-resistant quality is even as it is rated IPX5. Hence, as far as connectivity is concerned, the Air 2 has the edge over the two other models.

· Power (Battery & Charging)

The three models possess remarkable battery life. Starting from their charging time, it takes only 1 hour to get the earpieces of the three products fully charged. Also, all of the three models feature a 300mAh charging box battery capacity.

However, while the AirDots Pro comes with 100mAh battery capacity, each earbud of the AirDots Pro 2 and Redmi AirDots possesses 40mAh battery capacity.

Also, AirDots Pro offers 3-hour music playback time while Air 2 and Redmi AirDots feature 4 hours of playback time. But, while Redmi AirDots and Air 2 can last for 12 hours of standby time with the case, AirDot Pro can only last for 10 hours.

· Microphone

Without gainsaying, the three models feature excellent audio quality delivery.

The noise reduction property enhances the performance of the microphone in the three products: While both Redmi AirDots and Air 2 feature environmental noise reduction (ENC), Active Noise Cancellation is also found with the AirDots Pro. This property helps prevent outside noise from distorting audio quality.

However, the truth is that AirDots Pro doesn’t prevent noise as effective as the Air 2 earbuds. More importantly, compared to the 7.2mm and 7.0mm sound unit found in Redmi AirDots and AirDots Pro, respectively, you can expect a much-improved sound delivery from the 14.2mm audio unit from the Air 2.

More so, the new release supports not only SBC audio format but also AAC and LHDC that delivers high-definition wireless audio.

· Price

Currently, the three models stand at an affordable price. Understandably, among the three models, Xiaomi Mi Air 2 is relatively more expensive, with a price tag of $65.99 while Xiaomi Mi AirDots Pro is available at $56.99. As for the Xiaomi Redmi AirDots, it can be purchased for $19.58.
