The Snapdragon 865 SoC is the most powerful flagship processor used by Android devices, outperforming both the Kirin 990 and the Dimensity 1000. Qualcomm President Cristiano Amon claims it is even more powerful than the Apple A13.
The Apple A13 strives for instant performance, just like a champion sprinter, and excels in short bursts. The Snapdragon 865 SoC, however, is more like a long-distance champion, with excellent endurance and higher overall performance.
However, the lack of an integrated Snapdragon X55 modem is also arguably its biggest drawback.
Qualcomm is not without the ability to integrate a 5G modem, as shown by the integrated 5G modem in the Snapdragon 765G SoC. The Snapdragon 865 is designed without an integrated Snapdragon X55 modem to meet more requirements.
A separate modem opens up more possibilities for application for the Snapdragon 865 and with Apple, while the Snapdragon X55 can also ensure that functionality is not compromised.
It doesn't matter to the user which solution is used, so long as it offers strong performance capabilities and does not overheat. The Snapdragon 865 will be debuted in the Xiaomi Mi 10.
Online revelations indicate that the new Xiaomi phone is well on its way. It is equipped with a curved Samsung AMOLED screen with a high refresh rate and the Snapdragon 865 processor. While the Xiaomi Mi 10 is no surprise itself, its early release date is.
Due to Qualcomm's lack of expectation for the development of 5G, Huawei seized the opportunity to unveil a dual-mode 5G modem and the Kirin 990 5G processor. This move by Huawei resulted in a very passive attitude from Qualcomm, and it has had to bring forward the launch of the Snapdragon 865.
Although the actual release time has not changed, phones that can equip the Snapdragon 865 will be available much sooner than expected. The Mi 10 may even be brought forward to the MWC, indirectly denying the previously rumored launch of the Mi Mix 4.
The delay to the Mi Mix 4 is not good news for excited Mi Mix 4 fans. However, Xiaomi has applied for a new patent for an under-display camera, presumably designed for the Mi Mix 4. The release date is likely to be delayed to mid-year, as it was with the Mi 8.
The Mi 10 is equipped with a flexible 6.67-inch Samsung AMOLED curved screen with a punch-hole design.
The phone supports a refresh rate of 120Hz, dual front cameras, and an aperture of 2.94mm, the same as the Vivo S5. Higher than the 90Hz offered by the OnePlus 7 Pro, the 120Hz refresh rate is currently only supported by just a few mobile phones.
The higher refresh rate makes the phone smoother, but it also means the screen is more expensive. Particularly surprising with the Mi 10 is the 2K resolution and 88-degree curves on both side edges, which make it a truly top-notch screen.
In terms of performance, the Mi 10 is equipped with the Snapdragon 865 and the Snapdragon X55, with support for dual-mode 5G. Functions requiring millimeter waves, however, shall be unavailable in China due to the lack of support in the country.
High-end performance means paying more for features that aren't particularly practical, which is the case with the Snapdragon X55. The Mi 10 provides up to 12GB+512GB of storage space, and it supports UFS3.0, which meets gamers' demand for extreme performance.
As for the camera setup, the Mi 10 is equipped with a 100MP rear camera, which rivals the Mi Note 10. Results may fluctuate, but not significantly.
The Mi 10 will feature a 5000mAh battery, and it will also be available as a Special Edition or Premium Edition, both of which shall be equipped with the Snapdragon 865 processor.
The Mi 10 Special Edition supports 30W wired and wireless charging, the Mi 10 Standard Edition supports 40W wired charging + 30W wireless charging, while the Mi 10 Premium Edition supports 66W wired fast charging + 30W wireless fast charging.
The Redmi K30 Pro, which is equipped with the Snapdragon 865, will be released just a few days after the Mi 10, meaning it will have to compete with the Redmi K30 Pro.
Although the K30 Pro is more affordable, its configuration is very mainstream. The Mi 10 will integrate the best features and be a true high-end flagship model, with a high price to match.
