Rugged smartphones have been in full bloom in recent years. The reason for this was the strong competition between small Chinese manufacturers and the growing number of users who understand that ordinary phones are too fragile for them. Instead of buying a special case, you can immediately get a model resistant to water, shock and scratches, with flagship components like the Doogee S95 Pro.
Doogee S95 Pro is the new modular premium smartphone from Doogee, which is known for its secure phones.
The full S95 Pro comes with plug-in modules with speakers and an additional battery. The box also has a quick charge (24 W), a USB cable, a paper user manual, a pair of wipes and a protective glass.
The design of Doogee rugged phones over the past three years has noticeably changed and become more sophisticated - this is the result of extensive research by the company. Doogee S95 Pro weighs a lot - 284 g without accessories, and with an additional battery module, its weight will reach 390 grams. The dimensions are large (168 × 79.3 × 13.8 mm), but you can’t name a giant phone.
It feels weighty and thick, the reason for this is a metal frame with a protective coating, which Doogee marketers called a layer of the best shock-resistant rubber of our time. There is also a tray for two slots for SIM cards, and it is hybrid, you can also insert a microSD card.
On the left side of the case there is also a SOS button and a power key, on the right - a fingerprint scanner and volume keys. At the back is a module with three cameras and one LED flash. The Type-C connector, which is closed by a rubber valve, is available on the lower edge - a sign that the model has been tested and received a protection rating of IP68 / IP69K and MIL-STD810G.
The S95 Pro has a Mediatek Helio P90 processor, which is a strong middling. Its main competitor is Qualcomm Snapdragon 710. Under the body of this rugged smartphone are 8 GB of RAM such as LPDDR4X and 128 GB of internal storage Samsung UFS 2.0. Data exchange here is not as fast as modern laptop SSDs, but it still surpasses standard eMMC systems.
Like the previous Doogee model, the S95 Pro supports wireless charging (up to 10 watts). In terms of the camera, things are much better here than their predecessors, thanks to three lenses, one of which is Sony IMX586 with a resolution of 48 MP, it is assisted by two 8 MP modules. Ahead we have a 16MP front camera.
Other important features include: NFC, a 5150 mAh battery, as well as a 6.3-inch screen with a resolution of 2160 × 1080 and a protective glass Corning Gorilla Glass 5. Unfortunately, there is no oleophobic coating, which upsets. The optional module with a 3500 mAh battery is magnetically attached to the rear surface. There is also a docking module with speakers, consisting of two 27 mm modules. The battery built into the second accessory is enough for about 10 hours, but unlike the first additional module, it completely covers the camera.
It should be noted that these additions are not water and shockproof - falling into water or land from a high altitude is likely to break them.
The Doogee S95 Pro phone runs on a clean version of the Android 9.0 Pie OS with all the latest updates. In terms of add. functions, we have a useful button for sending an SOS signal, DuraSpeed function (restricts battery consumption by background applications), as well as a familiar set of tools that appears on all such smartphones with Mediatek. The most interesting of them: a barometer and a noise level meter.
In terms of speed, the Doogee S95 Pro is one of the most powerful shockproof phones on the Mediatek processor at the moment, however, it still lags behind the AGM X3 with its Snapdragon 845. Nevertheless, thanks to the PowerVR GPU, this rugged Doogee phone is excellent copes with games.
The same applies to internal storage, which demonstrates itself much better than eMMC-systems. Support for the UFS protocol means an increase in the speed and reliability of data transfer.
As for the protected flagship smartphone, the cost of the Doogee S95 Pro is quite acceptable - $ 459. Its main competitor can be considered Blackview BV9800 Pro. But, in a competitive device there is less RAM (6 GB), a less powerful processor (Helio P70), however, a more capacious battery and a unique thermographic camera FLIR Lepton.
There is also a competitor in the market represented by Ulefone Armor 7, whose latest model is similar in characteristics to the S95 Pro (the same price, processor, RAM, camera, internal storage capacity). However, the Ulefone phone has a more powerful battery, and it also has UV and heart rate sensors. Although unlike the S95 Pro, it lacks the ability to connect additional modules.
Doogee S95 Pro has not significantly changed the situation in the premium segment of rugged smartphones. However, this model is fast, has a huge memory, a set of useful accessories, as well as a powerful camera. Despite several shortcomings, the S95 Pro with its reasonable price will be an excellent choice for those who need a powerful, able to work stably anywhere in any place, in any weather conditions.
• Great cameras.
• Two SIM cards and a memory card.
• Useful add-ons (modules).
• High overall performance.
