Xiaomi has left a good impression in my mind, because of its lower prices than similar products in the industry and the marketing strategy under the impact of the Internet.
Compared with the existing Xiaomi and Redmi mobile phones, CC9 is positioned as a "mobile phone for the youth."
Evidently, it is much more sensible than using functions to differentiate products.
I took out Xiaomi Mi 9 and Xiaomi CC9, and then ask 20 colleagues to give comments about them. Most think they look similar!
Indeed, Xiaomi CC9 bears vivid resemblance of Xiaomi 9 in many aspects, including the design, the curved glass back, the waterdrop notch screen. By even hearing the name CC9, people can't help recalling Xiaomi Mi 9.
Although the two phones are similar, after comparing them carefully, we can find some differences in the details.
This time, I've got a white Xiaomi CC9 whose official name is "White Lover." CC9 also has the iridescent effect similar to that of Xiaomi Mi 9 on the back. Xiaomi CC9 features a 2D grating structure.
Thanks to the new structure, users can see the reflection of multi-colored light at any angle. Unlike the one-dimensional grating of Xiaomi Mi 9, neither does CC9 require any specific angle, nor you should shake the phone for the iridescent effect.
Of course, since Xiaomi CC9 is designed with a glass back, even though it is in white, the smartphone is inevitably a fingerprint magnet. If you want to expose the back without wiping your fingerprint frequently, use the provided TPU case.
Another detail that distinguishes Xiaomi CC9 from Xiaomi Mi 9 is the breathing light of the logo. It is a design that I have never thought of before. The breathing light functions in this way:
During charging, it can be steady on as a charging reminder;
When a call or a message comes, it flashes to remind you.
Of course, we can also associate it with system functions like music, and it can flash to the music.
In other words, the breathing light is not different from the indicator light of mobile phones, except for its special appearance. In this aspect, I believe that the designer has referred to some features of gaming phones.
Sure enough, compared to the awe-inspiring lights of game phones, only the logo is a light.
Therefore, even when the breathing light flashes, Xiaomi CC9 remains calm and elegant on the whole. Nevertheless, I think it is easier for the public to accept that. After all, not everyone likes the dazzling light.
Although the specs seem to be quite conservative, the phone is still competitive.
First, all of, Xiaomi CC9 offers DC dimming, which is uncommon in smartphones at the same price range. DC dimming can protect eyes from the screen to a certain extent.
Next, the Sunlight Display 2.0. The screen will be brighter, and its contrast ratio higher outdoors to see what's on the screen clearly.
At last, let's have a look at the 256-level eye protection mode. When you view the screen in the dark, the color temperature adjustment is not protective, whereas, it can reduce the glare caused by the cold color light.
Whether it has an eye-protection screen or an eye-protection mode, you shouldn't rely on the functions to protect your eyes but good habits.
Like multiple cameras that sprang up two years ago, after being developed for over a year, a fingerprint scanner has become a must-have for smartphones priced from $180 to $1,800.
Xiaomi CC9 is equipped with a 7th-generation optical fingerprint scanner, the same as that of Redmi K20 Pro. It works in the same way as the fingerprint scanner of Xiaomi Mi 9:
The in-display optical fingerprint scanner collects fingerprints, and then the fingerprints are compared by using photoelectric reflection, and finally, the recognition is completed.
Theoretically, compared with the previous generation, the size of a pixel is increased to 7.2 microns, the photosensitive area is increased by 100%, the monitoring area is increased by 15%, the dynamic range is increased by 33%, and the signal-to-noise ratio is increased by 40%.
In a word, the success rate of unlocking is increased by 30%.
When it comes to the reflective light, Xiaomi has also integrated an "anti-glaring" mechanism with the fingerprint module. More specifically, the module controls the light for scanning the fingerprint according to the ambient light, to avoid glare when it is dim, or you're sleepy.
The phone can identify the fingerprint and unlock in milliseconds, which lives up to my expectations. However, although the application of the camera module doubles the efficiency of unlocking, the identification is still through photoelectricity.
It is worth mentioning that the Xiaomi CC9 also has a 3.5mm headphone jack and an IR blaster. Thus, the mobile phone can work as a portable remote controller for my air conditioner.
On the front, there is a 32MP Samsung S5KGD1 image sensor. The high-resolution sensor preserves more details when you're taking a selfie.
To break the limit of angle, "Panorama Selfie" has been incorporated. However, you still need to rotate the phone to take a photo, rather than switching to the wide-angle lens by pushing a button.
The "AI Portrait Mode" of Xiaomi CC9 is an improved beauty mode. Instead of turning A into B, it makes A look prettier in a natural way.
For example, I whitened my face, and actually, my neck became white, too. Therefore, my friends won't find that the colors of my face and neck are in stark contrast.
Additionally, Xiaomi has also added Mimoji as a unique option.
We can generate a cartoon image for taking photos or creating emoticons, etc.
The rear main camera is Sony IMX586 48MP sensor, which is the same as that of Xiaomi Mi 9.
You're probably quite familiar with the IMX586 CMOS sensor, so I will not repeat the specs. Let's have a look at the general camera performance of Xiaomi CC9.
Photos were taken during the daytime:
Photos were taken during the nighttime:
As for the other two cameras, both the super wide-angle sensor and depth sensor are 8MP and 2MP CMOS respectively. Thanks to AI, the former allows you to get wide-angle photos in most circumstances. The latter is dedicated to the portrait mode. More simply, it is used to measure distance.
Technically, AI Sky Replacement is not a real-time switch. It is a filter for post-production. AI identifies the scenery and automatically replaces the sky, or adjusts brightness, color saturation, contrast. Thus, you can turn a cloudy day into a sunny one.
The system provides us 6 filters, including Sunny, Cloudy, Rainbow, Sunset, Twilight, and Sunset.
The design is considerate because the system provides a slider for the adjustment of intensity. If the AI adjustment doesn't meet your aesthetics, you can adjust the picture by yourselves.
However, whether the AI post-production is "optimization" or "forgery" is still controversial on the Internet. Thus, people might hold different opinions about "AI Sky Replacement."
For me, AI Sky Replacement can improve the look of the picture. It is intended for lazy users who like stunning post-product results after taking landscape photos.
The only downside is that access to the function is hard to find. Without prompts, I don't know where to find it at first. Here's how to access the function: Album → Edit → Filter → Sky Replacement. If this is the first time that you've used a Xiaomi smartphone, it will take you for a while to find it.
Xiaomi CC9 is not prominent in terms of configuration, because Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 SoC, 6GB RAM and ROM starting from 64GB to 128GB, are standard requirements for smartphones whose price varies from $350 to $450.
Xiaomi CC9 is slightly thicker and heavier than Xiaomi Mi 9 because the former has a 4030mAh battery.
As for medium to heavy use (playing music, video, etc.), the smartphone can last 8 to 10 hours. If used as a dedicated gaming phone, the longest battery life is about 4 to 5 hours.
In terms of charging, the CC9 comes with an 18W charger. It can be charged from 13% to 49% in 30 minutes. The overall performance is quite satisfactory, not mediocre, whereas, it is not prominent, either.
In the first half of this year, there existed several new phenomena in the mobile phone market:
As main brands and sub-brands differentiated from each other, manufacturers have direct their focus on the price range of $350 to $500. The products and ads are associated with "youthfulness."
Nowadays, the mobile phone industry market is close to saturation. Users won't buy a smartphone just for a certain function, especially when 5G is coming. Most users would rather wait rather than go for the latest phone.
However, mobile phone manufacturers can't stop here. They need to find a new way to attract customers. As a result, from the beginning of this year, mobile phone manufacturers began to aim at young people aged from 15 to 35.
What do young users need? Eye-catching appearance, good-looking selfie, and battery life for a whole day, as well as a moderate price.
Although the configuration is not perfect, Xiaomi CC9 does well in other aspects, such as the youthful design, camera comparable with flagship smartphones, and impressive battery life.
Regardless of the product itself or the functions, Xiaomi CC9 is a product address young people's needs at present. If you are considering changing a new phone, choose Xiaomi CC9.
