Microsoft Surface Duo Leaked Specs

Microsoft entrance in the dual-screen market is awaited for quite a long time. After many rumors, the company finally revealed its plans for this market in October of 2019 with the revelation of Microsoft Surface Duo. Despite the announcement, the specifications still remain a mystery. Today, however, in a new twist of fates the specifications are appearing through a new report.

MICROSOFT SURFACE DUO ALLEGED SPECS

According to Windows Central, the new Surface Duo sports 5.6-inch displays with 1800×1350 resolution each and is 4.8mm thick. Under the hood, the Surface Duo boasts Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC that comes alongside 6GB of RAM. The choice of an old chipset isn’t a big surprise since Microsoft finalized the internal design before Qualcomm’s requirement of a separate 5G chip with the SD865 was known. The company doesn’t have room anymore for the extra chip, and also it’s too late to make a change like this one.

As per the internal storage, the Surface Duo will come in two flavors – one with 64GB storage and another one with 256GB. The handset has a single camera with 11MP f/2.0 1.12um. The new bit also confirms that the two panels are AMOLED displays with 401 pixels-per-inch. Moreover, the new slate will have USB-C fast-charging and a 3,460mAh battery.

This amount of battery doesn’t seem to be quite enough for two large displays. Let’s see which kind of magic Microsoft will use to make it last enough during intense usage. Since we’re talking about the software, the Duo ships with Android 10. However, it should receive Android 11 “relatively Quickly”. Microsoft wants to finalize the pre-installed apps until the next month. All of the first-party apps will support spanning both displays and drag and drop features at launch.

Interestingly enough, some of the test units seem to lack wireless charging and NFC. The lack of wireless charging isn’t really surprising, however, the abscence of NFC may be heart-breaking. Especially for users who want to make payments with the new slate. We’ll have to wait for more details from Microsoft to confirm the availability of the above features.
