Xiaomi has decided to update its successful TV Box series. After the excellent Mi Box 3, Xiaomi released Mi Box 4 and Mi Box 4C. The hardware will guarantee great performance, in particular it will be able to play video in 4K at 60fps. Not to mention the compatibility with new standards, such as support for HDR 10.
Like its predecessor, Mix Box 4 has good price, but should you buy them if you already have TV Box?
Xiaomi Mi TV Box 4 has a minimalistic design. The body of the device is completely white. It has a compact size: a thickness of only 16 mm, a width of 95 mm, and weight – 145 grams.
Xiaomi has decided to release two TV boxes with similar specifications. In fact, we have Mi Box 4c and Mi Box 4 (the upgraded version).
Both of them have the same Amlogic S905L processor with Mali-45 GPU. As for the internal memory, they have 8GB of storage. The main difference in RAM: Mi Box 4 comes with 2GB of RAM, while while Mi Box 4C has only 1GB.
The both models are equipped with Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n connectivity, while improves version also has Bluetooth 4.1+ EDR module. Mi Box 4C remote control works through the infrared port. Both devices have the same ports for external connections, such as HDMI 2.0a, USB 2.0 and 3.5mm audio jack.
Xiaomi Mi Box 4 runs on Android with MIUI user interface.
The package includes a Bluetooth remote control with voice commands and Mi Touch function, which replaces the navigation buttons, allowing users to use gestures to control the TV.
Xiaomi Mi Box 4 supports H.265 4K2K formats up to 60fps, H.264 4K2K up to 30fps, MPEG1 / 2/4, VC-1, DivX4 / 5, HDR10. For audio playback, Mi Box 4C is only compatible the DTS-HD format.
As you can see the hardware equipment is very respectable; the real problem with this device is user interface based on Android. This type of interface makes the TV Box almost useless for worldwide, outside of China. It is hoped, as well as the previous version, Xiaomi will released an international version compatible with Netflix certification.
